To date me but this happened...... years ago around here all we had to nail up were St Criox, Breckenridge, diamond, Nordic and handmades. Clipping was a bit tough. The new thing at that time in the supply house were Kerkhart SSPs w/o clips. Thought those New shoes were expensive: 41$ a box. Bought a box and practiced with a Sears and Roebucks 24 0z ball pien. Half way through the box all my clips looked like hammered dog squeeze! i realized i needed to stop wasting money and pull some decent clips.....moral... if it costs ya money one will pay more attention to detail(s)
I find i have to hang just a tad more over with a cross pein. You want to try to pinch the material on the foot surface back to the anvil instead of trying to shear it down. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2

Being a CF I figured ya be well past the clipping and shoe mods or is it that you have your go to for making clips and now your trying new ways..
That's part of it Travis. Plus its about honing the skill. Passing a test, any test import means you have satisfied the bare minimum. Another reason is getting caught with you're pants down at a contest like a bunch of us at the classic this past year. . .they wanted bob punched clips on the hunter shoeing, any other style and score would reflect it harshly. Oh so they don't just say clips ..they have you do it a certian way??.. sorry I did not figure that ..I shoe for dough not show..if I need to clip I do it for what I happen to grab.. I'm not good at using ball pen or cone ..I'm like lighting and never hit same place twice..lol..I follow now why he's looking for new and diff ways..

We all shoe for dough and I'll say more times than not clips you see pulled are with a cone hammer but yes there are times where method is specified. Practice more with those methods and you'll see hammer control improve. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
I looked at some other clipped shoes I pulled off the stack in my yard and it looks like I frequently end my source at the foot surface. Hammer control my azz...hey I have hit my own knee..I black my own eye from missing a shoe and recoil off the anvil...and have lost more finger nails than I can count.. hell I even slung a hammer out of my hand and hit my helper..lol.... I have only shod one competing thing in Ga and I will say I have not had that much fun with my clothes on in a long time..I was lost as a goose but it was fun.. the only thing was I had to supply my own holder and she had to go pick my horse and she's a tad scared of big ones ...I look around and the others have these big 16 hand horses that where dead broke and I'm thinking hell yea...my girl comes back towing this damn wild eyed 13 hand pony that was jumping left and right at every crack of a hammer...thank god someone told me I could change.
Cody well done its a start but your clipping needs alot of practice cross p/cone you got to forge clips.
