Would anyone be interested in maybe writing up a detailed sticky on how to take pictures of their horse's hooves that they need advice on? If farriers are going to give advice, it would be nice to know how to take good hoof pictures for them.
Here's starters for 10: http://www.all-natural-horse-care.com/good-hoof-photos.html http://www.thehorseshoof.com/hoofphotos.pdf http://www.equinesoundness.com/takingpictures.swf
Thanks , Thomas. Would it be beneficial to take the pics close up from a distance, or close up from close up?
You want to be close enough so you can see clearly what is in the frame but far away enough to get everything you want in the frame.
Close up may set the camera zoom on too wide an angle, distorting the photo. I'd suggest to shoot with the camera at half zoom and try to fill the frame with the subject by adjusting your distance from it. Also try not to hold the camera at arms length, as this makes it difficult to hold steady and shoot a sharp image. Hold it close to you and support it with both hands if possible. It does make a big difference.
There is a whole "to do" list for this site and this is on the list. It might take a few months to get done though. Just have to see how things go.
That's something I was told , keep a distance and zoom in to remove distortion. My biggest problems are the worse problems come out looking better than they really are, and my points look worse. Under run heels are the worst for me. Just can't seem to get a picture that replicated true.
