I'd like to see it expand. I'd also like to see Ray be able to make some money for his efforts. That may come. It hasn't been a year yet since Eric started it.

I think what most people don't notice is Baron redid the resource center a few years back and it was nothing short of a flop. He attempted to integrate the forum (remember when he thought it was a good idea to have 2 scroll bars to view the forum?) So Baron and Steve seem to have had the same idea of getting everything integrated. Both of them showed a complete lack of understanding of the software they were using for the resource center.

    Eric,

I can t say I remember that being a hassle, but it leads to an observation, if the change goes sour, as it appears to have with horseshoes, is it worth attempting the change....?

I m not arguing ,i m not sure that you are 100% correct, nor am i not sure that you may be 100% incorrect! I m pretty sure that the past attempts at change were intended for the improvement, improvement of use, cash flow, advertisers or as i say ...what.... but we would run the same risk, but at a much earlier stage..ie.. approx. 1 year, give or take a shut down or two.

For added info. i ve been approached about selling advertising, with that means giving forum space, cause folks don t give out money just cause i m a good cause, well maybe Smitty will dig a little out of the old sock but others won't without a return. Anyway selling advertising is like selling horseshoes, everyone feels that they are the only ones who do the work so space/horseshoes should be free after all "you already have the site" or better yet ,give me a sample!

you know that their is a lot of time involved, Andre and David have put a lot in, and i ve bent more than a few ears. long and short of it is i think that we should let it mature a bit more, but keep posting and or suggesting ideas of what members would like to see, and we ll keep plodding along but unless folks make it known what they would like it cannot even be entertained.

    Thanks

    Ray

It wasn't a hassle because it wasn't a true integration. It was easy to let people keep viewing the forum like they did in the first place. But he missed his target of trying to incorporate the resource center into the site.

I'm sure the intention was good but the result was poor. Baron basically tried to do what chronicle of the horse website does. Integrated vbulletin in joomla. From what I can tell he simply bought the wrong bridge and the result wasn't as expected. Steve simply bought a website, and had preconceived ideas about what he wanted to do without doing any testing or investigating.

You would run zero risk because you can do everything with this software. The only thing you would absolutely have to change is a menu item.

Adding stuff to this website is simple. I would wait to see what happens with horseshoes over the next month. If they actually fix everything it's kind of a waste to create another resource center unless you were willing to put in a lot of work updating it with new info.

I've already seen horseshoes forums converted into this software so at the very least the forum will be fixed. I sent Alex files with the resource center using this software so there is no reason for them not to fix the resource center. I wouldn't be surprised if everything gets fixed and I wouldn't be surprised if the whole site just comes crashing down one day.

Same editor as the old horseshoes site ;)

I would take expansion as making a resource center here.

John, and all who will give the thumbs up as i m sure Eric is the 1st of many,

i ll do some checking around, but somehow i think that this could be the door for a large/considerable $ investment, and i m not sure David leaves his piggy bank unguarded.......... but as Santa Clause says "we ll see" but no promises,

    thanks for that

This is the sort of thing that brought me to look for a forum in the first place. I had a sore horse on my books and I didn't know what to do with it to make him sound again. I began to look up information about his condition online by way of the great google gods...I stumbled upon horseshoes and signed up to try and find info on ring bone. From the perspective of a guy who at that time didn't really know beans about corrective shoeing I thought I had found the mother load. There was only one problem...when I would ask a question I got lambasted for being a hack and having no business working on a horse with any kind of problem. I was told I needed education and I was in over my head. Which is exactly why I signed up for the sight I was aware I needed to learn and that's what I was trying to do. Since that time I have finished an apprenticeship that increased my knowledge about shoeing and anatomy and now I understand a lot better the things you guys, that have been shoeing since before I was born, are talking about.

Thing is there is still some hostility towards people that are trying to better themselves by asking questions. What I think would go a long way to bringing in new discussion, members, interest, is for there to be some things written and posted about the mechanics of how a limb works, anatomy, etc. Maybe these might be something ray invites someone to write and post, then locking it so it's not a discussion but there for a person to find and read. If there is something in that a person wants to discuss then a new thread could be started.

    Just an idea...

    :)

This can easily be accomplished with this software. And it's much cleaner than locking a thread and starting a new one for discussion.

Well that would be my suggestion is some articles or whatever you want to call it addressing things like anatomy, reading x-rays, etc. But not necessarily discussions. Sometimes the discussions distract from the meat of what someone has posted. I know we all have opinions, but there are some on here that are for sure more knowledgeable in some areas than the rest of us. Getting them to share that knowledge I think would be great.

Me too, George. I can't wait for the day my dentist can participate in a tooth cavity repair and filling contest. And my orthopedist participates in a broken bone setting competition. And my accountant, in a tax filing competition. And wouldn't it be fun to watch an Ob-Gyn participate in a baby delivery competition? We could have coal mining competitions, home building competitions, whatever. The possibilities seem endless..........)
