Smitty, with all due respects, if you have a point, please enlighten us. Otherwise such statements, although perhaps "cute", aren't helpful. Regards
Like the shoe placement on those distorted feet. And Michael, I really think you are on to something with those extra long, "go ahead and try to pull these!" mega clinches...... Dave
Thanks Dave, I was lazy and didnt want to grab my camera twice. So i took the photo when I put the foot down.
I cut part of finger almost to the bone on a bender; I always twister now; but sometimes bend if needed.
I've staunched the blood flow on a couple of vets and farriers before i thought they would bleed out on me . . . . but not MY horses.
I mostly bend. On the ones that jump around I twist them. But seem to get cut more with twisting. If they move around to much I just let go.
I once put a shoe back on for another farrier that always wrung his nails off...apparently the woman had never seen the nails left bent down so when I put the foot back down on the ground she said, "why are you leaving the nails like that?".... It was Winter so I said, "Ma'am that's extra traction" and I started packing my stuff up...thought she was gonna have a coronary..... Glad to see we are bunch of closet benders in here.... Dave
I'm a twister, but this can happen from time to time... however years ago I was working with a guy who was a bender, he was nailing on and I was clenching up. One of the horses snatched her foot and 'fishhooked' my finger to her foot with the bent over nail and then started jumping around (probably due to the commotion I was creating! ) The only option I had was to pull... I still have the scar. Since then I've always taken my chances with the little slices that can be caused by twisting.
I'm a bender and I make sure I bend far enough that the tip is touching the hoof. Also, when finishing, I don't pick up the foot from below the nail line.
Tom in one thread your talking about blowing off people now your admitting your a bender Its funny we all speak english but one thing in one region means something totally differeent in another.
