I recently pulled a shoe off a horse that was due to be shod. As I'm pulling the shoe off he was bleeding like a stuck hog. As soon as the shoe was off the bleeding stopped. There was no sign of an abcess and the blood was fresh. The only thing I can think of was a stone bruise but of love to get answer thanks.
Thanks Gary it's the only thing I can think of. It was a shocker when you got blood running all over your apron lol. I thought it was me at first.
No sir as soon as the shoe was off the the blood stopped. I also noticed that the blood was not warm like a fresh wound. I spoke to my customer and he gathered on the horse today with out an issue. Mr Adams we are not far from each other.
Maybe the horse just stomped a mouse or something small and thats where the magic blood came from ..: Just kiddin!!
This is a rare condition that is caused by a hematoma ..pressure is forced upon the nerves in the lateral tendon region..ther fore placing undo pressure to interior structures and forming a gas actic pocket..antibodys attack this slight infection and breaks down the lactic acids..therefore a blood pocket forms and finds the path of least resistant and migrates to that point..so as the shoe gets pulled you open this pocket to drain...all will be good now that the pressure is off..it is recommended after the draining that for the next ten days someone massage the base of the horses tail 6 times a day for 30 min at a time..this stimulates the central nerves that effect this condition.. hope this helps..
