I have a few horses on my book that are like this.

I wonder how you guys shoe these horses. My own horse is actually a bit off set medially on the hind end, not enough most people would notice but a farrier would. Until now I addressed it by putting the shoe under the pastern instead of just where the hoof is to support the limb.

This cycle knowing I can change it on a whim I shod him with a thicker branch on the medial side just to see what would if anything change. I can't say specifically what is different but something seems better about his way of going. I may have to video him, then next cycle go back to what I was doing to see what the change is but I notice he feels more catty when I ride and being that he is 17,2 catty is kind of a novelty for me. ;)

I have a theory that at the canter when he lands it is X amount of force on the smaller side of the bone and that by effectively sweetening the lateral heel I am allowing it to sink a bit and share the landing with the medial side as that would float so stop sinking faster. Not sure what y plan is for him shoeing wise long term this was/is just an experiment.

Any other was you guys manage horses like this?

I thought I had a picture but cannot find it. Basically the limb is set off center to the hoof capsule. If you look from the fetlock down the pastern is perpendicular to the coronet band but there is more coronet band and hoof to the medial side of the pastern. I can get a picture tomorrow.

That is a much more extreme version of what my guy has.
That or the angle makes it look more pronounced but yeah that is what I am talking about. Thanks

There will be no pictures of my boy because after 7 years of owning him, through three farriers and a vet all who saw the off set hoof and a slight rotation from the fetlock he is now straight.:cautious: Today was a brain expanding day I feel dumber than a rock as I just don't understand how he could be crooked that long and now not be.

I can only guess he was 'stuck' some how and now isn't. I have hit a point in my equine education where I had thought I had been regularly reading from the book of knowledge and now see I am still on the first bloody page.

I will add he had three sessions of bowen and cranio sacral therapy about a month ago as a friend is taking classes for it. I wonder if when she was working on his hunters bump she allowed something to release that was making him hold his legs funny... for 7 years.

I still would be interested in how this is handled by others as I have 2 others on my book offset pastern down.

:ROFLMAO: I literally was there with the camera and was like wtf?? What happened??

He did actually shift his weight for a second and look how he always had stood but I am not that fast and it was only for a second.
I am going to go get some leg bones out of the basement and see if I can figure this out a bit.
