I have ben relying on word of mouth and a sign on my truck for over a decade . Now thinkig of trying a new ariea that im not well knowen in .any sugestions on how to get my name out there would be of help.a vet in the ariea is promising refurles but its a long trip and i need it to pay . Thanks
Facebook has been really helpful. Many horse owners are teenage girls and young women. They all have facebook. I'm not sure how it works but sometimes my Facebook status reaches over 500 people in my area. They can share your page, like it comment, on it, spread it. Word of mouth is the only real way i have found. But what few realize is Facebook is the new word of mouth.
At the end of the day i think doing consistant good work everyday comes out on top, if you have to get your name around having it on the side of your van is good. but i do think when you drop that last foot thats your best advertizing
Thanks .a freind sugested cregs list to .Absilutly John ,What i need down there is a lame man eater but in the mean time ?
Difficult horse with sore feet .when i started out i couldent shoe for chit but i could handle a horse it filled my books and has kept me in work when every one else around hear is pawning there tools.
not exclusivly but i dont turn them down . ive ben here so long now i can tell most of my coustemers what a rank sob there horses grandpa was. I prododly halter broke three quorters of my books nowadays and for the most part there all kittens . However ive found how you handle a hores is more importent to most people then how nice your shoeing is .my work is adove avrige nowadays and im proude of it but when i get a referl nine times out of ten its becouse of how easy i talked fluffy into giving me a foot.
Over the last three years the econimy and drought has hurt this ariea bad .not manny cows and less horses.im now the only full time farrier in a two hundered mile strech where most people can shoe or trim there own horse so my work has slowed down quite a bit.south of me is a large city were the horse market is still farly viable, i have avoided the ariea in the past becouse my books were full and its a long way for me to go and i prefer working horses and people. How ever i dont want to move and im not intrested in rideing fence so im going to give it a shot .booked three drafts down there for the end of the month so we will see
On the up side John three years ago there was fifteen horse shoers within therty miles of me so i hav e got some smoking deals on used farrier tools lately.guy sold me a like new pare of ge nippers last week for $50 bucks
i would say there could be up to a 100 farriers in 30 miles of me in the small town im in there are 5 farriers
Its ben a sad deal for most .$ and grass dried up, work slowed up more then half of the shoers i know including me got a devorce for christmas in 2012.Ive ben lucky my places were payed for and i made some good investments and as for the ex leaving twas the best thing to happen to me in saventeen years thow i dident think so at the time. Ive now little or no compitishion and the sweetest lady freind who shares my intrests and my love of knotheaded horses and i maniged to keep half my crap .only down side is i lost my three best horses. Up side i dont have to feed them
