Im curios about how you all plan your work day and time off .and wether it ever works out the way you plan.might make for some intresting stories. Tus. I had 7 sceduled ended up doing nine then called out to consult with a vet.witch ended with helping burry a horse yesterday i planed on doing only two trims as today i have a five hour drive and seven to shoe at a ranch in the gila.best laid plans ,ended up helping a ciropracter and doing five. How do your plans work out?
Clients just send the helicopter for me these days. If I drove for 5 hours id fall off the edge of the country.
you don't.........just try to get holidays to yourself if poss..........if you want the business then you are at their beck and call; if not; they switch real fast and in a hurry.
Two and a half up and two and a half back in good weather ,winding two lane and dirt roads over the contanental divide can be hazerdus during the wet season so sometimes it takes longer.they pay me well , treat me like family and have twenty three head that they take verry good care of .i guess i dont see the problem but i think you now understand why i charge for my travel.
Maybe i should have you talk with some of my clients but i prefer to keep my bum less then sixteen hands from the ground. I did have one offer to send a sled once.thinking were in totaly different pay grades
Ray, I started taking Mondays off, 'cause I usually work Saturdays. It's a lot easier to take Mondays than Saturdays. Last year I cut down to 5 days a week. Thinking about cutting back to 4 next year. To answer your question, my week never turns out as planned. Sometimes a day will. I try to schedule things level, but some days turn out to be 10 hour days, some days 6 hours. I do try to schedule trimming days and shoeing days seperately so I don't always have to take the truck. Sometimes that doesn't work out either. I seem to often drive one hour for every 2 hours I work - 4 hours of work for 2 hours of driving. Regards
Easy day today , I hope .we are hosting our first orginised trail ride this week end and i need to shoe mine .poor guys allways the last one on the list
Had a couple of those long runs - one was a large AQHA operation 150 miles away, always three days work, heated shoeing area large enough for my truck, apartment with fully (well, no alcohol) stocked pantry and refrigerator, good horses, good mileage rate and shoeing rate. You bet they treated me better than family - my ex wife was the equine manager. Other was down in Colorado, three hours one way, multiple clients, three to four days each time and friends to stay with.
One of those surprise trips was a first trip, relatively long distance (60 miles) - eight horses , too many for one day, but not enough to justify two days so I planned one day. I carry a lot of shoes in the truck, but all eight of those horses wore a size one. I typically don't have eight sets of each style and size. Wound up doing a lot of shoe building and shoe modification that I really hadn't planned extra time for. Alcoholic ranch manager didn't have anything but beer to offer me after I ran out of water. (I did decline)
My OCD girlfriend sets out all my days ..deals with the calls and the change plan's..it drives her flipping nuts that the days never go as she plan's..lol.. it sure makes it nice to just be woke up and handed a list of where to go and what to do..the list tells me when I need to pick up money or she bills them or they paid with square debit card..it took her a good year to realisticly lay out the day depending on if it was just a straight up shoe job or special stuff was needed and how much time to allow for what..but with even all her careful plans they never go as she lays out... I would suggest to anyone if you have a better half willing to handle all the papper work and day to day routine let them..its worth it..
Typically schedule everything again before I leave. Usually everything stays in groups as my area is spread around a bit. Try to be home at a decent time but doesn't always happen. I know what I'd like to go do and have that marked on the schedule so all I have to do is schedule around it. Couldn't handle someone else doing the scheduling especially my wife, wouldn't want to come home pissed because the schedule was all jacked up. . .only have myself to blame now. And if my schedule changes and I want to be out of town I don't bat an eye about shuffling work. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2

Some days its before dark some days after. Don't work every Saturday and have only worked 2 Sundays. Figure with the economy I'll work when I can when there's people willing to give me money. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
