There's no problem, it's simple maths. To do 900 trims a month, you have to do 36 trims a day (assuming you don't work weekends) which means that 18 trims is, as you say, a morning's work.
Try 18 horses while 6 1/2 months pregnant! I have all beat!!! 33 mini trims was the most I did; and "never" again!! I also was 31 yrs old! I only do the most is 13; and that is pushing it at 50 yrs old!!!........ I look 35 yrs old
how many trims do you think you could do in a day from 8 in the morning till 6 in the evening if there been done once a month
on your schedule.....18...maybe 20. my legs, back, hands start to hurt too much after that [work would suffer]/ all in 1 barn or traveling.? with Lunch? My schedule...depends on the feet; most of my trims are horses with 1-2 inches of foot; so I use my knife, knippers, file and can take up to 20 mins. with time out for Lunch and 100 mile traveling distance too, no more than 10-13 and that is with a decent trim.
I'm not on about anything. I simply quoted a post of yours in which you stated that you know a lady called Linda who trims 900 donkeys a month - that is 36 a day, which makes 18 a morning's work. No hidden agenda.
Gary i think this the post your refering to Linda a friend of mine has 900 hundred to trim once a month
900 trims once a month at $40 a trim is $36,000 a month, $432,000 a year. I don't believe I would worry about doing anything else the rest of the month.
So what have we learned from a thread like this, well nowt we didnt know. There are guys who can shoe quick, in my day I was quite quick. I dont employ a farrier for obvious reasons but I do employ other trades, I dont employ people who do the job at a run no matter what they do for a living. None of my staff rush a job, customers arnt stupid they know the value of care and attention, that may well be the first thing to suffer as the pace quickens or fatigue sets in. I personally can shoe quick or well but I struggle to shoe well quickly. I know this isnt the point that some are making but I think that my clients these days prefer quality not quantity.
Like John said 21 trims is a mornings work (assuming he is including stoping for a cupa) maintaning this pace seven days a week is beond my physical abbilitys however a day or two like this in the fall is not a abnormal occerence for me and that includes pulling shoes first. unforchenetly the only way to have the volume of horses to maintain this pace seven days a week would be to trim for free as all those not shoeing from a arm chair allready know. Dangit John its a lot more fun to argue with you then it is to aggre with you
