I asked her to measure up for me and she gave me the foot dimensions of 6" by 6", so I made these from 17" of 7/8" by 3/8". Arc welded the bar as I cannot forge weld...



I think I would have tried putting hind shoes on him first as he's unshod behind, sound in a straight line and slightly lame on a circle. He also went similarly lame this time last year when the ground was hard and came sound again when the ground softened up. We'll see...

ok, my sum was add the width and the length plus 2" for the toe bend and 3" for the bar.
Where did I go wrong?
(good exercise, by the way. I never seem to cut the right length...)

Gary there can be a few factors when making bar shoes
the section your using
the shape of your foot
how much over lap in the scarf
how much you work your bar, in this case its concave so it wont strectch much

when you give your lads guidelines, what do you tell them?

what's the basic calculation and how does it vary?

I try to get them to understand feet, shape balance,measurments
the best way Gary is working with a lad one on one
try to give him my eyes if that makes sence

well when I making a pair of shoes for a horse
the 1st thing I will say to the app is what size is he
and keep the ruler in your back pocket
so I get him thinking straight away.
he also has to calculate how much he has to trim
and were he needs to be with his heel lenth
this makes him sharper with measurments
