Forgive me for asking this silly question, but... here goes. Shod a horse (fronts only) with a pair of shoes owner wanted me to put his horse with shoes that had already been used maybe 2x & had to be pulled. Modified them to fit, but then discovered nail holes were larger & wanted to use Reg. head nails. All I had on my truck were city heads & of coarse they countersank a bit. Told owner to call asap if the shoes pop off. Question: Will they stay on for a bit? Or will they come off very... easy? Only asking since it's a long drive & mad at myself for dumb mistake!!
I do have reg. heads, just didn't have them with me that day.

Why not just offer a pair of new ones at the same price IF Price was an issue ?? I don't sell or charge for my shoes , they belong to me.

I charge the same for resets as I do for New shoes. I reset two times max, usually just once. I do not use shoes someone else previously applied period. To answer your question, if they aren't using the horse much then you'll probably be okay.

If the horse loses one or both shoes then you return and apply new shoes and charge accordingly. There's no reason for you to subsidize somebody else's luxury.

I charge the same either way. But typically won't reset anothers work. Unless they did an awesome job.
You can always hem the shoe over the horn to close nail holes.

Hard to guess if they might stay on for a bit or pop off because of nail fit, there are a lot of other reasons that they might come off or stay on, some that come o mind are fit of shoe, pasture/paddock condition, amount of use and shoe of hoof fit etc..

I have always found he 5 reg nail much heavier shanked/shaft along with larger head so have never usd hem in the same places that I felt called for filling a nail hole but have used e head nails fot that purpose, even though the hole was wallowed out for/by city head. My thinking was that the shank/shank was the finer/thinner requirement.

As Michael pointed out, the holes can be manipulated to make the nail available work better if you have no other options.

Let us know how it worked out

Charging the same for resets and new shoes would have taken care of that issue. Think of the time it took you to reshape it.

Much as others have said, I don't charge for shoes. I rarely reset (most horses in my custody wear them out) and I almost never reset someone else's work or shoes. Reshapeing a worn shoe never goes real well. With horses I do regularly, I seldom need to reshape for a reset. They will likely stay on a reasonable time. Gad, I have some reg heads in the truck, just love a chance to use them. They'll last a long time only using them to rivet pads.

This area is pretty much sandy loam so I used Reg heads quite often to extend the bottomline..sand eats away at the nailheads and the shoes are still in good shape..once again the bottomline is important to me..some horses I do don't even get rode in the 6 week cycle...some not all...

Six week cycle?? I wish. I have a client who has my shoes on her horse for the last fifteen and a half weeks. She told me she wants to get as much out of those shoes as possible. She's riding this weekend. I do hope they fall off without hurting the horse.

LOL, don't you wish we could buy nails that would automatically disintegrate at 6 to 8 weeks? "course then we'd probably get replaced.

There is a nail on the market that does that, sometimes 4 weeks is good. It starts with a M & ends with ?.

Because most people around here who don't want to keep their horses on a regular schedule have awful horses and typically make lousy clients.
