Kyle. Nice work on the stand but during a horse wreck, I think that thing would slice up some legs pretty well. I like your idea of a harrow disk. I've made several like that, but you must do something to blunt the edge. Even if you grind the sharp edge off the force of a goofy horse will slice something. I bent and welded 1/8 black pipe around the edge of the disk. Hey Rick, The knifes are things of beauty. Nice.
Thank You Bill, I really like your idea. Done right I bet it looks pretty sweet! Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk
Use edge guard. It's like that stuff you find around the door frame of your car. I'm not sure where you can get it other than at an electrical supply house. I glued some on the disk I used to make a hoof jack. I got mine on a job I was working on?
I have used both styles of hoof stands, and I prefer the one you have rather than the disc one. In addition to the danger highlighted by Bill, I find it unstable when you are standing on the disk and the horse can move you around because you are not standing on the ground (I am sure there is a proper term to that). Also, it is considerably heavy towards the end of the day!!
I cut the discs on the ones I've made to 16". I stand with part of my feet on the stand and the rest on the ground. I'll try to get a teenager to show me how to post pictures here.
Please do, I used that one there for a few horses and I broke down and went back to the hoof jack. I find when standing on the back two legs of it there is too much wiggle room forward. The way I put the nippers on there is a PIA to get them out. Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk
Just a little project I finished. Made from a 30mm wrench and a piece of barstock. Used my power hammer to do the hard work. Silver on the front and just in front of the solid brass butt.
I'd get in the habit of wearing some eye protection if I were you! Seen way too many eye injuries in my 65 years of biddy boppin around the countryside.
Knocked this together today, after a horse stood my last one yesterday. I make one every year or so...
Gary, good lookin box...... suggestion if you don t mind, make the bottom removeable, .... easier to clean out, as to wheels. While they (wheels) don't work on unlevel ground they do on the occasional level ground . so to me anyway......... anytime i can make it easier..........why not ray
