If he's your friend, why is he your friend? Is there a reason to keep this friend?

    Oh wow, David.

Did she owe him money for the job?

I don't condone pulling shoes for that reason as I've stated before, but I certainly can see the temptation.

If for non-payment, I believe you had no problem with that last it was discussed. Article says he was remorseful.

Kim I will leave it to God to judge and others to wonder, Friends are friends, I have a few and one or two on this board, I would never turn my back on someone who had messed up.

The foot looks really mangled. Sad if he did that. I am sure your friendship was earned and hope that he lives up to it once again.

I guess I really don't have an answer. If it was my friend, I wouldn't be friends anymore. But something you said-that you leave it to God to judge, that's what I tell my co-workers when we discuss another drug baby admitted, I haven't walked a mile in their shoes, and it's God's place to judge, and I don't get paid enough to judge these moms. They're not my friends, but I can understand what they did in some respect.

I wish USA could feel the need for some kind of licensing.

There's another side to this story that isn't being told. I would like to know what motivated this farrier to do this.

I totally love what I hear of your British systems. I wish horsemen in the USA could see their way to forming a real and recognized profession. Till then - crap like the TWH abuse etc will continue and contnue.

Great post George I couldn't agree more. The boy will have trouble maintaining a full time business when his suspension is up. There was a farrier in my area who was prosecuted in the early 80s for pulling a toungue off a horse when he lost his temper and until his retirement in 2009 that was what he was known for more than his shoeing. As a result he had all the crap to shoe that no one wants like driving horses in a foot of mud.

I wont comment on the above story as I know none of the parties involved but if I had a problem with someone I take it out on them personally not their property or pets.

^ It would never be accepted over there..... We've way too much regulation for the USA.

More to the point though it's not just farriers that need regulating it's owners that need a slap upsides the head!

I'm not going to say educating because it's just too darned easy to get educated if you want to. Too many are content with terminal stupidity and they have a horse just because they can!

They have neither the wit or wherewithall to be a good owner though and don't know even the basics and regrettably the horse which is treated just like any other cheap commodity suffers in the process.

Frankly that's much more of a concern in terms of numbers than what's happening with TWH's having some stupid fat red neck thinking it's appropriate to make it so uncomfortable that it produces the most ridiculous, ugly and unnatural walk possible!

i think he was treated harshly , there is always two sides to any incident and as the law was broken punishment had to be given , the trouble with the uk courts is that a vindictive emotional female and the rspca working together will never lose their case

    Don't be so ridiculous.

I'm telling you that whilst there might well have been two sides to the story that our legal system is such that both would have been heard.

Our legal system is such that you're innocent till proven guilty.

The burden of proof in such cases is "beyond reasonable doubt"

I appreciate that this is your friend but the burden of evidence required to establish proof and guilt and then the guidance regarding penalty and sanction is no different whether the owner is male or female or whether the evidence is provided to the Prosecution Service by the RSPCA or some random passer by who saw what the farrier had done in cutting (!!!!) off the shoes.

You may think he was dealth with harshly because he was your friend but if you stick to the stark facts. He's a trained farrier. He CUT off shoes!?! On a live horse?!! Causing damage, pain and suffering.

Got to say that in my opinion a 90 day suspension and a piddling fine doesn't go far enough. Though I'm sure in truth the consequences of his action will go on for longer.
