This could be a good forum. Karen would have a ban button or even a "take a vacation" button. Administrators + moderators would all be on the same side and not $crewing eachother. Or at least answer PM's. Karen would not be called "Mommy" by one administrator whenever she does the job that she was told to do, mainly keep threads from going downhill. Now that they are all going downhill, it would take more than me to help get it back on track.

Bottom line: Ray wants a forum that was not an "old boy's club". He wanted the members to work at how that would evolve. So a non- farrier- moderator was good with him, and a good change from the usual . And stated that anyone here wishing another "old boy's club" would have to find one elsewhere.

However, since there are some farriers here who wish to keep this an "old boy's club", they are now pi$$ed off, bash me on the threads, do not answer my pm's asking for advice, all because they are intimidated by one female non-farrier who has thought this position to be an HONOR, and worked hard to do her job.

IF THERE ARE FARRIERS HERE THAT WOULD LIKE TO KEEP THIS FORUM OPEN MEMBERSHIP, NON FARRIERS NOT GIVING ADVICE, TEACHING OTHERS WITHOUT RIDICULE , AND HELP THIS FORUM NOT BECOME A PI$$ING MATCH, WELL STATE SO AND STAND BEHIND IT.

IF YOU WANT ANOTHER "OLD BOY'S CLUB" WITH A FARRIER FOR A MODERATOR, THEN STATE SO.

THE WAY THIS IS NOW IS TOO MUCH BS AND AGGRAVATION FOR ME TO BE HERE -MOST OF IT COMING FROM 2 ADMINISTRATORS WHO WON'T BACK A MODERATOR THAT ONLY WANTS TO KEEP THREADS FROM GOING DOWNHILL WITH SPITTING MATCHES, AND KEEP THIS PLACE FREE FROM TROUBLE MAKERS.

IF THIS IS THE WAY IT'S GOING TO BE, I WON'T BE A PART OF IT. THIS IS NOT ABOUT SIDING WITH FRIENDS. IT'S ABOUT MAKING A FORUM A PLACE THAT'S COMFORTABLE AND WELL RUN -EITHER FOR THE BOY'S CLUB , OR FOR AN OPEN MEMBERSHIP, AND LETTING MEMBERS DECIDE HOW THEY WANT IT.

NOW IS THE TIME TO SPEAK UP. IT CAN'T BE BOTH WAYS.

IF SOMEONE HERE IS CAUSING TROUBLE AND NEEDS TO BE REMOVED, IT TAKES AN ADMINISTRATOR OR OWNER TO REMOVE THEM, A MODERATOR CAN NOT DO IT. I'VE TRIED TO GET SOME ADMINISTRATION TO BACK ME UP TO DO MY JOB BUT IT'S NOT HAPPENING.

    DECIDE WHAT YOU WANT.

I was perfectly happy with how it started.

But I'm concerned it's about to go to the dogs!

It's shameful that the Administrator isn't giving clear direction and that he's ignoring some of the crap that's recently appeared.

    Folks,

I thought that the forums were a good ,easy, place for the sharing info and ideas. I found that what Eric had set up was a good system, so good that even I could get on and post. Others seem to have found it the same.

When Eric decided to let it go , for whatever his reasons, I thought it worth keeping it going. It is my belief that it still is a good thing,

For me, this is not a business though I use it to tell about product that I make , it is a vehicle for folks to converse , some heatedly, some joking, but an avenue for conversation, it is really up to the participants to find their way and for those who find something egregious to say so and or not respond. Honestly I have horses to shoe, and things to do. I don't want to moderate(whatever that is) a forum all day nor do I think it could be done and satisfy all. So you folks need to find away

In my opinion, anyone who wants to destroy the conversation at any time pretty much can with or without someone dedicated to watching what is being said it all day long. What bothers one person may not bother another.

Since a lot of this has come about after the posts by Jack mac recently and in the past, my suggestion would be to not respond to him/her and not read the posts issued . Some folks get along with it, last he/she was here he/she asked to be removed and was, it could go on forever, and if the intent is to just screw up the flow then it will! I just don't understand why one would want to, but hey I'm not them.

Basically, from my perspective, if you want the forum ,it will stay up if not it'll go fallow!

    Regards

In the short time I've been here, I've really enjoyed this forum. There are a few pissing matches and a few folks abusing others, and I'd like to see that adressed privately.
Basically, if someone comes here to learn, help them or shut up. If a person expresses an opinion you disagree with, debate them, but don't insult them for having a different point of view.
When things like that were allowed on the other forum, particularly the "old boys's club", it went downhill. As a business, it would be stupid to allow your base to run off new customers.

So no first amendment rights here. Don't criticize the government. Other peoples words control your feelings and the thought police aren't doing their jobs.

I have to agree with Ray. I take everything with a grain of salt. I've had my feathers ruffled quite a few times. I ignore what I should, discuss what is important, and enjoy the friendly banter.

Not as far as I'm concerned John. They're either used or they're not. Less used on the internet, I notice.

It's Ray's sandbox, so these are his decisions to make. I don't think he issued an election for moderator positions so my vote doesn't matter. Banning people is a job for the owner or for the moderators as Ray would like.

    Pat,

must be why you get the big bucks, ideas ,ideas, ideas.... I have no problem with moderators being selected by the membership!

The way i see it,last look we had 108 members, that's a small population, or a large family, moderators should represent the community and the communities wants and wishes. Those wishes (rules?) would ,in my opinion need to be defined, so that a moderator would know what to allow and what to squash but others may feel different.

I'm trying to make this your forum, cause I like to hear how others do the same thing I do ,...different. I'm pretty selfish that way. To be honest, and I mean this ,I'm here to pick your brains!

    what are the thoughts?

    Regards

    No more moderation for me.

I was just supposed to keep the peace. I did that to the best I could without support from admin. I have been on this mb every single day, many times per day, and in the middle of the night, just to do what I was told to do. I think in 2+ months I've semi-warned 3-4 members..

Some of you have been great supportive people and I appreciated so much the ear and the guidance you have given me. Some didn't care who was moderator. Some really really surprised me and treated me well. Some were extremely annoyed that a non-farrier female could be a moderator.God knows why, they just could not deal with a woman as a moderator. Kinda silly if you ask me. I was even told that this moderator thing was one big joke. As hard as I worked to be here almost all the time, I hope it wasn't for a joke.

So I am giving the moderator button back. I'm spending too much time here trying to do a good job, when there is so much BS going on, and all I've got is a silly little "warning" button . My position BTW was to keep the peace and keep topics from going downhill, or getting too far off topic.

Anyway, thanks for the help from some of you.

Karen don't let a few get you down. From what I've seen so far most treat you with respect. I do like that you can actually have a discussion here and I hope it stays that way. I love the information we can get out of HS but intensely dislike the fact that I can't say much, especially when a few of the people are friends. Sometimes I just want the like button when a shoeing job looks really nice. Just being able to participate, joke a little makes the world a nicer place.

Susan, I hope this site can straighten itself out. There are alot of good people here, and it will take one or two to just grab the reins and dig in, or organize. I'm not down too much. It is such a relief to not have to moderate without any back up. I'm here, too , for the education. I must have been here about 6 hrs a day or more being a moderator. I will put that time to good use.

On HS, LOL, just say it! And I got this owner comment area at the bottom of the owner area for comments on the farrier threads. Hey, we can be the good ole girls club!

Red you are a joy and a pleasure on any forum that you are on, and I have alot of respect for you. And , I have always known you to say it like it is. Red, there are some of your really good friends here that are probably willing to ignore what's going on, and just talk shop with you and others. I like your post . It's become a fine mess here.

I like the site, I have no problem with the ribbing, we do it to each other when bump into one another in the supply store. Sometimes its fun to watch the fireworks. We are not lawyers just hardworking guys and girls who have their head lower than their ass all day. We have some steam to blow. I think we are sarcastic by nature, we work generally in splendid isolation maybe that's why we all think we are the best farrier and have the best ideas. Karen I had fun prodding you when as a moderator you broke the rules, life is boring if you cant take piss some times. Everyone just relax and let it flow it will find its own level. If you Ray, Tom and et al buy a washing machine to wash your dirty laundry in it would be better too. Most of us on here want to talk Farrier, I want to see Smitty's latest shoeing job. I want to see Kim getting better. I want Chris to come at me with good British sarcasm. But most of all I want to learn something about the trade I love.

I don't know either. I knock but there's no one home. I think what's going on is sort of like a "bar owner telling the customers to fight it out and let him know when the fighting is done". And then there's the odor of testosterone wafting thru the air.
Smitty, I know you are not a part of that. Just sharing your work with others. :)
