They make good boat anchors, door stops and paper weights.

Karen - Ask Terry to show you the cyteck he pulled off a lame warmblood. Then look at how small it is. Let him tell you the effect of the sole pressure on that foot. I have never seen anything like it.

Wow, those look great!! I had no idea how easy it would be to keep the bedroom door from blowing shut when the window's open.

    Regards

The shoe cannot be shaped so its a non-starter for me. But as the video says there is no need for the "hassle and heat of the forge".

I just happened to be doing a little "you Tubing" last night and this popped up. So, I'm sure you all dislike them, but I wanted to see if anyone tried them and what experience you had. Detailed!
I personally find the base really small, he talks about using more of the hoof as supporting weight, but then in those tiny shoes, there a little short to be supporting anything.

Yes George, I hand picked this one, LOL :)

Jack, don't worry. I don't think that short base should be called any kind of support. I just wanted to hear stories from some who've tried them, then tossed them.

Now Karen I've been known to give anything a try with a few beers under me belt. Just ask the talent at the local. But I don't care if your right left upside down minded. Ya wouldn't think for a moment of nailing that bit of space junk that fell off a satellite on to a horses hoof & any moron that did try it.Well they needs to give up on shoeing horses pronto , because he/she would have to be a bloody simpleton !!!! & not to be trusted near a horse.

Here is what little I know about cytecs:

Cytec is based on putting pressure on the sole (see how they remove the wall?) VERY bad "science." The wall has a purpose and function just like the sole and frog is it meant to have some ground contact.

However most reality based shoes are designed to relieve sole pressure. IOW the shoe actually is designed to have the inner web "Off" or slightly bowed away from the sole. The cytec on the other hand transfers all weight bearing onto the sole, it sits just inside the wall.

It is akin to putting a heart bear on with pressure pointing up into the frog - the foot gets no relief even then the horse shifts its weight.

    VERY bad science.

Actually Burney Chapman angled the frog support slightly up in his heartbars for laminitics.

    So not akin. :p

Now Kim you have to be very careful with heart bears. Strange horny anonymise love struck men send them to you on valentines day. Heart bars well different story.

But the follow up on that is the practice was amended. If not done right- you got bruising and sub-solar abscessing. Unrelieved pressure = bad mojo.

BTW I watched the video of Mr Chapman's. Very good info. Sent it to a friend to watch whose mare foundered. She was conversant on the topic pretty quick after Mr Chapman's explanation. We should link it on a separate resource topic for owners.

Anything improperly applied will have a negative effect.

Mr. Chapman had quite a bit of success with his approach. I definitely don't have the experience to do it.
