Smitty, I've not tried those but I've worn various ones over the years. Currently I am wearing these http://www.amazon.com/WORX-Red-Wing-Shoes-Guard/dp/B0016P3PL4. The biggest problem I have with most of the boots is their weight. They tend to be a bit on the heavy side and by the end of the day, this old body really starts to feel it. I generally buy metatarsal work boots that are built on a hiking boot frame because they are the lightest of the bunch. So, before you buy them, find out how much they weigh and then decide if that is going to suit you.
They look like an after thought on how to protect the laces. I don't like lace up boots. Not around hot metal & you tend to get bits of hoof tailings finding there way in to your boot via the laces. http://www.rossibootsusa.com/products For mine I wouldn't shoe horses in anything else.
Met guard boots are commonly used by foundry workers to protect them from getting hot metal down in the laces, thus preventing their feet from serious burns. FYI, I live only a few miles from Red Wing, Minnesota, home of Red Wing Shoes. Red Wing boots are a way of life for us The last pair cost me around $320.
I have the same style made by redwing. I quite like them. They have taken care of me a few times when hooves were snatched and stomped.
Just el cheapo safety toes for me. If you saw the price of metatarsal protectors in NZ you guys would take the risk too. Jack, is that Bon Scott and the boys in your avatar?
Much like rick how heavy a boot is plays a big part of if I can use them..also I have 3 screwed on toes and a few k wires and a rod in my right foot so shoes are a big deal for me to fit right ..I tend to go for a loose fit boot or crocks ..as I will pop my foot out of the shoe if stepped on..I'm not sure what hurts rick with a heavy boot but my hips kill me when to shoe is to heavy ..not sure why but it is what it is..
Don't know how that happens, all the lace up safety boots I have had, the tongue underneath the laces is sewn in so nothing gets into the boot. I wear lace up boots because they give better ankle support than slip ons.
That might be the case with some brands. But the laces are still going to get soiled . Pull ons are a lot easer in muddy conditions to change foot wear so your not dragging mud & crap in to the cab & on to your mats & peddles. They can ride in the back of the ute with the rest of the gear . Each to their own.
No That's me & the lads. Stogg , Frankie, me with out me T shirt on & black Joe. "Dead End" .Played a few pubs for awhile then folded.
