    Tom,
I had one vet ask me to lower the heel on a horse to lessen the strain on the DDFT. I was able to provide several references on the subject proving that lowering the hoof angle increased the strain instead of the vet's idea. My first reaction in a dispute is to look for research on the subject. I would not lower the heels to remove strain from the DDFT, but the overwhelming written evidence makes that choice easy.

Really? I can't say I've seen many owners asking for advice.

Rick hits the bulls eye again. Over the years I have watched jerk-mac-the-troll graduate from wannabe to fake. My fear is that people will take his advice seriously. Occasionally he gets one right, but even a blind pig finds a nut sometimes.

Pat, in order to make the case you had to engage in a discussion.

What do you do when the vet refuses to talk to you, has never met you, and only passes messages through the owner? There is no dialog, no opportunity to ask questions. The owner is just going to get upset and go find a contractor that will follow whatever the vet has prescribed as well as the owner can relay that information or whatever they have in writing. I've waited as long as 10 days for a return telephone call before walking away.

In that case I would also walk away. I have had vets fax directions to me 10 minutes before the appointment time and I have refused to follow the prescription without first talking to the vet. The client understood my decision.
Most of the disagreements involve opinions about shoeing, and even successful farriers disagree about methodology. I think you understand my point- most issues can reasonably involve some discussion. I welcome this discourse, as long as everyone involved (farrier included) is acting reasonably and professionally.

Hi George. I think that the owner of this forum has been pro-members making this forum what they want, thus, owner's refusal to just ban someone. Moderator, according to Eric, is good if no one notices when crap is removed. That's David. I'll bet that there's an awful lot of posts from disgruntled and uncivil members removed that no one even notices. Members alone actually did vote someone worse "off the island", LOL. That was certainly a winner thread started by George Geist.
So I'm guessing that it's up to members to vote someone off this island Until then, most nasty posts go up in smoke and nobody even knows. (Aw, heck , did I let the secret out, David???)

    Bravo.

A discussion requires two parties. I've had several vets not return my calls and when I bring this to the owner's attention sometimes the owner just tells me "Do what you think is right." Other times they get upset and confused and just can't seem to understand why I should need to talk to the vet when I've already been told what to do.

The "apprenticeship"portion of your career must have been so important to you JacMO. One keeps bringing up that piece of life, therefore you haven't grown to think for yourself. "Students have a tendency to immolate the bad habits of their teachers"........

Is that so.Well I've had to watch the trade digress. How has the one day trained diploma dumb ass trimmer become so influential in the equine industry. Ill tell you NB shoeing opened the door 15 years ago & said come right in. Horse owners aren't that silly, they looked at the horrible mess their horses hooves are turning in to. Read all these horse mags saying how this is the way a horse should be shod its Bio mechanically better for your horse & if your farrier isn't shoeing your horse this way then you need to find a farrier who will. Don't listen to the farriers who want to shoe the traditional way. You even had the NB crew running down traditional farriers claiming their behind the times ,not up with the latest farrier science. EVEN PALING UP WITH TRIMMERS. Those horses owners & their are thousands of them don't trust a word any farrier tells them about their horses hooves any more .Gladly running to the open arms of any butcheries trimmer thinking it cant be any worse then the crippling mess NB did to my horse.
So when I hear the shit talk from Mr glue them on ,we need to act like the farriers we wont to be. I get a little hot under the collar.

Really? You are surprised that horse owners don't value your advice?
I have news for you- I don't trust a word you say. You are the reason owners don't trust farriers. Would you expect any different? You said your goal was to be rude and unprofessional and now you complain that owners don't value you?

Before you say it, owners, trainers, vets and even some farriers do value what I tell them. Ponder that for a while....

I think you've mastered that part OK.

Having more clients than you want must seriously cut into your internet farrier duties, drinking, and pontificating. Tom's right - you should triple your prices. I'm sure the result would be a group of happier horses. ;)

"Mr. Glue On" has evolved JacxMO; you are stuck in "The Way". "The Way" is an attitude "if it is certified to a standard" it's, the work, is good enough. So JacxMO, definition of a standard is mediocrity. Guess at best ur mediocre...... Why do I say that? Look at ur posts over the years dude...... Me thinks you need to get out of the "Bush" more
