Fishtail Bar Shoe

I made this today. I have seen both toe clipped and quarter clipped versions of this shoe and I was wondering what everyone preferred for functional use. For me, I think toe clipped works best as it stops the shoe sliding back whilst on the shoeing cycle.

I like this version better.

What is a shoe like that used for, Marc? Is it only used on the hinds? Curious minds . . .

This shoe can be used for suspensory desmitis, they can also be used on front feet although the branches of the fishtail tend to be shorter to prevent them being pulled off. The horse is on box rest with this type of shoe.

Box rest only indeed. IME if the horse will see turnout an extended egg bar with a narrow teardrop extension works well on suspensory desmitis. Not sure I would want that much M/L "stability" as the fishtail bar shoe provides for a desmitis case even if it was on box rest. I think a fishtail bar is one of those shoes you have to nail on and let the horse tell you right away if you got it right, then be copious with followup as things can change in a hurry.
