I'm at the stage were i might be taking on one more apprentice
as i have a lad with 2 years left

i have a new lad doing a 3 week trial next week will be his 3rd week
so on the grounds he comes through

i was thinking of putting the progress of his 4 years up good or bad
so it might give the young ones an insight in to the job.

    what you all think yes/no

i dont agree with it John , it could backfire , he is only a young lad and any bad comments could knock him back and damage his confidence . How does he feel about it ?

It depends on his resolve Chris. How many "bad comments" have I gotten, numerous.... I keep trying to get better. He's going to be doing tons better than I with John right there teaching him.

But your right it is disheartening to receive the bad comments. I just know it's par for the course.

Kim, not a fair comparison. He doesn't have a badge and a gun. ;)

Your old apprentices aren't prepared for the modern live still..Send them to me one year or two ..or three..they will learn to work hard,in silence and they get no much money nor much food..:p

Pretty good promise Smitty!! I feel that YOU would be the best judge of their future? I doubt any apprentice with you would ever turn out to be a bad Farrier....

i agree Jaye , but this is a young lad going to take compulsory examinations which are life changing , he is not a 2nd/[3rd career person having a go at farriery , i reckon the examination board dont look favourably on students courting publicity

sorry Jaye , young folk full of raging hormones need encouraging and as far as i am concerned the school of hard knocks is not a healthy way to progress . i am old school and i survived , i have also witnessed good men fail by uneducated critiscism from the unqualified
