Must have been some trip Dave! How'd the GS hold up on that loose terrain? Those tyres look to have held up exceptionally well to make it all the way down there and still looking like new! How many miles all up?
David the GS did great, never missed a beat, despite the fact that it is home serviced, it has been down there a few times, didnt drop it at all!! did 4500 miles in two weeks, there were ten of us so lots of drama and adventure was had , half on KTM'S and half on BMW'S .
Sounds like a great trip as said above by Rick, on my bucket list! So which was more reliable the KTMs or BMWs? For me the home servicing is half the fun!
They are all reliable these days, BMW for comfort and KTM for usability, most problems come from falls and punctures. You need to be pretty laid back, resourceful, in the right company and an ability to drink lots of beer and laugh at the funny stuff.

No it wasn't planned, just happened to be on the road I was going down, the place was gates shut except for the main entrance which had a sign saying visitors by reservation only so I didn't stop.
I saw the pics on alex's facebook did the flood avoid the house? hope there isnt much damage, if theres anything i can help out with give me a shout

First post in a while! Bought a new camera on the weekend so thought i'd make a start and have a few "test" shots. View from the house this morning, before departing for work.
There's not many hi-falutin places to shoe in NZ... Kiwis are resolutely low key about their horse housing arangements. Most times it's a PITA for the farrier... but sometimes it's nice. Shoeing a shepherd's hack on the banks of the Tuki Tuki river, east coast North Island. A bloody nice spot to work when the weather is nice... and there's trout down there in the river.
oh i remember those scenes well from when i was working in north canterbury nearly 5 years ago, beautiful in the summer although i have to admit that i enjoy the concrete and barns when the weather is bad here in the UK.
