Said it before, will say it again. All the theoretical pragmatism in the world is worthless without the skill to create and apply the package (whether it is a unclipped keg shoe or a 3/4 fullered, hand made straight bar, deep seated, toes rockered, clipped, etc.). You can read all the books, attend all the lectures, and pass all the written tests, but until you can get it on the foot, as accurately and precisely as you planned, you failed your plan. Anyone can argue the theory, but it is hard to argue the skill. If you can consistently fit a shoe with a dime's width expansion and extension, you can consistently fit one with a half inch of both...or however you so desire. The 'standard' is arbitrary. Being able to produce it (or whatever you determine beneficial) reflects your skill level. Therein lies the benefit of contests...skill development. How one chooses to wield those skills, on a foot to foot basis, is part and parcel to his/her own convictions...and convictions are like distal sphincters, we all have em'.

First three miss the mark, the first one, completely. The other two 'comme si comme ca' )
The fourth link, was not about mining coal as expressed by Tennessee Ernie Ford......:)

Just those things for which I've already asked :)

So, John, why don't doctors/surgeons, veterinarians, dentists, etc. hold competitions?

For discussion purposes, I will argue that by pointing out that we are more akin to structural engineers than chemists and biologists. We manipulate the acceptance of load and application of force, taking preventative measures in mind when pathology dictates...or manipulate the acceptance of load and application of force, with the forethought on preventative measures to protect pathology. Engineers do have contests...USSR vs. USA to the moon, X Prize, or how about Punkin' Chunkin' ??? :D Even our local EMC has a competition every year called the lineman's rodeo...for that matter, look at the competition we call rodeo. Why did that get started? Do you think people became better ranch hands because they practiced and competed in rodeo?

Not to belittle the conversation, or to in anyway chastise anyone because I have probably as offensive as taking this thread off track, but . I will entertain a motion tat we farriers take this latest side journey to an jointly acceptable thread in the farriers section. Suggestions for the naming of that thread are now on the floor....... so moved , the thread shall be called contests of professionals and their relativity . As a further note, to stay off subject, anyone needing a judge at a baby birthing contest, I m in, if necessary, i l be happy to be judge, scribe , whatever is needed, greatest and most exhilirating experience i ve ever had,

onto the next thread , leave this one for somehow being in the horseshoes .com realm and improving this site........................within Davids pocketbook

    thanks

May have to stay away from that site even if it gets fixed if they don't plan on moderating a couple of the members.

Indeed it is. And though it may not be obvious, it is being done.

Wow, I just checked in on horseshoes and noticed that Tweedlen Dee and Tweedle Dum's names were in an olive color. Further investigation revealed that they have been banned. Who could have seen that coming? LOL.

I'd be more interested in what you want. I may be wrong but it looks like you're paying to keep the site going, in exchange you do some advertising. If that's the case, if horseshoes gets fixed you're in a pretty good position to get your advertising to a bigger audience for free ;).

If horseshoes does get fixed, which from what I've seen they will at least have a working forum sometime soon, members are going to have to make a decision as to where to post info. Knowing your plan will help me/us decide where we want to post.

    Eric,

i d imagine that folks will post where they wish to post, i d imagine and strongly suggest that you post where you wish to post!

we are not in a race with horseshoes, if you remember, when this site shut down, the main reason of getting it up again was to have a place for discussion, and as stated then ,if i get some advertisement in ,it s a twofer.

i wish you d ease up ,i m still trying to figure out how to split up my $4.475 net worth of this site between my kids and grandchildren and how to shelter it from the IRS.........i could start a thread looking for ideas !

    regards

    Ray
