    In order of how often I use them;
CH5 slim XL - use these more than anything else
E6 SL - for larger feet on some brands of keg shoes and larger handmades
CH6 SL XL - Larger feet on some brands of keg shoes
MX 60 - larger feet on some kegs where I want a thicker shank than SL
4 - 1/2 race - small footed, thin walled, and ponies

Seldom used, but keep in stock . .
E3 SL - for hand mades, maybe one box/year
E4 SL- for handmades, maybe one box/year
E8 - big hairy things, only hand mades, seldom used
Copper roofing nails . . . for pad rivets.

JC O is a good nail.

    Selection I use is simple:

    Delta Combo 5 - o, 1, some 2 DF's/ foot related
Delta SB 5 - ooo, oo sx8s/ foot related
    E 4 - customary
    E 5 - customary
    Cap 4 1/2 xl - 4 x o, 4-5 queens plates, 3-4x o kerk aluminums
    Cap 4 1/2 sb - #3 queens plates

Big nails used sparingly.....stock from years ago when I used to do a few feathered ones....

    E 3-7 slim liberty nails
    E8,9 mustad
    Vector ch 5, slim 5,slim 6
    capwell plater special 5

    I mostly use E 4,5 liberty
    and vector ch 5

if givn the choice I would only use E head nails. But the st croix shoes i use wont handle them.

Seems to me that some shoes work better with certain brands of nail as there's as much variation between nail head dimensions from brand to brand as there is nail hole dimensions. I pick shoes based on stock section and coarse or fine nail line suitable to the horse, then I try different nails to find what works best with that shoe. Kerk and Ray Steele shoes always have clean nail holes. I was never happy with the quality of the nail holes (not punched clean) on St. Croix or Diamond.

I believe the nail fitting in the shoe is myth.
