I want to get a Forge, but ,..I like to research things first. So im asking the more experienced,for your opinion,.. What brand of forge do you prefer? do you like Coal ,or Propane ? what are the pros and cons you have found?
I like my Pro Forge. I got it used with my last rig but it heats better than the whisper momma with open ports. Cody Gilreath, CF
Shannon, for a shop forge coal/coke is the way to go..but on the road working, Whisper Mommy is a great forge to have, works about everysize shoe ya wanna make or work, heats well usually on one side and the ports are handy. I just wish they had swinging doors to contain the blast out the side ports when you don't need to use them..and of course a Pro Forge is nice too..main thing is to used them not just let them bounce the life out of them in your rig..
As Gary said pro.is more portable .its easyer to light and quality and avalibility of fule is usaly not a problem.down side is there colder ,loud to the point of being anoing ,valves freeze up expencive to buy and run.complicated to build,finiky about altitude, less adaptable and limited to what you can fit inside. Coal is hotter and adaptible to any shape or size with clean fule its easyer to weld in and the only racket is the blower ,there cheap and simple to build and easeyer on fule.probloms are good fule is some times hard to find but if your not welding they will burn about any thing.clinkers can be a problom and unill you get the hang of it lighting and mantaining your fire can cause some frustashon. If your in a hurry and on the move and not doing a lot of work propane rilly comes into its owne.however if your going to be at it all day coal is a dream to work with.i no longer carry my propane rigg im no longer in that mutch of a hurry .i have a small break drum forge on the truck that is verry portable and a monster in the shop.i like the heat i get from coal IMO its a better heat iron seems to move better and in a pinch i can rade someones wood pile or bar B Q for fule .
