I only have one on the books now that I shoe that I use 1/2 x 1 1/4. Takes about 18" to cover his fronts. Couldn't find any pics, but did find a pic of a draft heart bar I hade last year for a friend of mine; 29 1/2 of 1/2 x 1 1/4
thanks guys! I will say that making a heartbar that size does boarder on being work. It's like having a boat anchor out on the end of your tongs.
you a excellent farrier and shoe maker. this is why Jacob1 needs to go on to learn from people like you. Post more please
Yeah, I've got a few on the books. Most are barefoot or wear scotch bottoms. Smitty, you have certainly fit a nice shoe. Chip, awesome heart bar.
Scotches are what show hitches wear. You have to grow the feet out long and wide or use acrylic to give the appearance of a long, wide foot. The hinds have a flare to the inside and trailers on the outside for more hock action. Pic.1 front shoe with pad fitted. Pic. 2 fronts with acrylic applied to right foot. Pic. 3 hind foot with acrylic on the inside to give the appearance of a flare.
Here in the south most folks who have drafts with scotches use acrylic instead of growing the feet out because of the maintenance associated with a long footed horse. Also keeping them in a stall is preferred because a little rough play and a shoe can be pulled pretty easy. most barns around here aren't set up to keep horses stalled when it gets to 100 degrees in the summer.
Funny about cosmetic veneer, It suits some or they wouldn't be doing it, but whether I'm looking at a woman's face with heavy makeup or a horses foot, I have to wonder why someone felt it was so ugly as to need covering up with a bunch of paint and putty. Just me.
Judges at shows want to see a BIG foot. It doesn't matter how you get it. It takes almost a year to grow the foot out or I can give them a BIG foot right now. It all started way back when folks grew out big feet on their plow horses to keep them from sinking down in soft ground. It has no practical purpose now other than the judges think thats how they should look. I have been at shows where the mind set was "the biggest foot wins".
