Does anyone have any experience with flip flops....the 1/2 shoe/pad combo? http://www.grandcircuitinc.com/products/flappers
No but reading the little bit about it it seems to fix or cure everything but strangles but no worries we got the Morrison rollers for stangles..hooping cough. .child birth. .and anything else..
Linda, they are very useful for a variety of maladies, given that they are softer than steel, quite popular on the harness tracks. often times ,in my experience, a tincture of time, will actually allow some of these problems to heal. I make Flip Flop like the European style in a firm and soft material. ray
I've used them on a couple horses who had problems pulling shoes - young horses who didn't have the balance and coordination. After some training, they are now on regular shoes.
yes I was agreeing with him on that they have a purpose?.,.....and I have used them on Amish buggy horses.
Going to try some on a horse with a bit of heel pain. What would be a suggested shoe? thanks for any help!
please explain what is going on; breed, use, conformation, post pics of foot to be worked on if poss. and what's going on with foot itself. LTLH or contracted heels, ect.

Eli, can you explain why the navicular bone appears so different between the two images? How much time elapsed between these images? Which was first. You really need to provide more information. DON'T MAKE ME GE THE WATER BOARD!
This particular case is a 9 or 10 year old Quarter Horse mare purchased 5 years ago. She was off at that time and radiographs showed navicular changes then at WSU in Pullman, WA. Sorry, but I don't have those pics. She has been going pretty well since then, but this year the client feels like she is a bit off again. The mare is a very leggy, fluid moving quarter horse, not a typical peggy, short strided cripple. She has been in PLR shoes/ frog support wedge pads with impression material, sometimes Magic Cushion. Shoeing intervals have been a little bit on the long side, particularly during the winter months. 2-4 feet of snow on the ground most of the winter where she is at. The client uses the horse for "fast trail riding" lol. In other words, she gets a bit of fast galloping at times and the client doesn't baby her at all. The vet asked about trying the flip flops on a couple different cases as she heard good reviews on them at the AAEP conference this year and asked my opinion. I know nothing about them and am looking for thought on them. As for the pics Tom, I double checked the emails, and they are supposed to be the same horse. There is about 3 weeks between the shots. The unshod one is at about two weeks after shoeing, and the shod pic is about 5 weeks after shoeing. The vet noted a cyst within the navicular and synovial channels that are enlarged with the left two actually including the cyst. Below are the additional images. Not sure why the one double posted. Sorry about being a little vague. I was just trying to post a general question. As always, you guys can't recommend something without details because.....it depends.....
