Got this picture sent from a friend of my wife. Someone had just bought a new horse and took it to a roping and the horse was so fast it ran right out of its feet. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Not real sure about the horses history. The owner was a former client who moved out of state. They sent me the picture and that short description. The horse was euthanized without any treatment.
I'm curious as to what might cause this, the one I posted was told they warmed the horse up and the first trip out of the box his feet were in the dirt. So they called there horseshoer because they thought he could just put them back on. Vet wrap and duct tape will fix about anything I guess.
Extreme fever in the coronary band due to the excessive concussion apparently..Some grain founders have done this in about 8 hours also...
I would guess it would be caused by road founder. That is something we dont see much of anymore because horses are now a recreational animal instead of a constantly used beast of burden. In the case of the horse at the roping I dont know what could have caused it unless they put him through one hell of a "warm up". I worked on a percheron mare several years ago who had a foot that was always giving trouble. Long story short when I finally got the owners to get radiographs we discovered the horse was MISSING HALF of p3. They then told me the rest of the story. Several years prior the mare had mechanically founder in that foot due to an advanced case of untreated WLD. She just walked out of her hoof. Despite her not receiving any treatment through all this the mare survived and grew a new hoof but it was always slightly smaller and very shelly. I was only involved with that horse for a few months and the owner finally decided to put the old gal out of her misery.
I would be more inclined to believe it was ignorance/not paying attention/just didn't care on the riders part than these horses just didn't show any signs of pain or discomfort.
the owner probably said "the horse was being a stubborn SOB" so they beat his @ss and "he came around"...
