My barrel horse is crossing his front legs and I want to talk to the farrier about it intelligently. HELP me please. I know this can be helped by a good farrier but I want to know that they are doing the right thing. Do you lower the outer wall? I am afraid he will get tangled up going around a barrel and fall. Please give me an idea what to do

Sounds to me more like a DNA problem or a Training problem.. If the horses conformation isn't exactly for performance don't use them for it..I really find it hard to believe that a horse just starts crossing over all of a sudden?

I know this post is old but,...
Stop getting so close to the barrel!!! If your horse is crossing over at the barrel your not giving it a big enough pocket to do its Job. Your causing it to HAVE to cross its legs over , stop its forward motion and then start running again. Make a Bigger turn , It takes 3 complete strides to execute a proper Barrel turn .If your horses dosen't have enough Room to properly turn, well then u get tangled up legs or crossed over legs.

Chris, in a round about way she was admitting to that very thing. On the plus side, she doesn't have to find s farrier to trim her horse out of balance intentionaly
