This horse is four. She is not broke. She was allegedly turned out for two years. The owner was scared of her. (Older lady who got her for free) When I approached her she snorted and squared up to me, with not the purest intentions in her eyes. After about five minutes I got her haltered and ran her a little both directions. She thought about charging me but after a bump on the nose and some sweet sweet talking I got her done. The owner was photographing me without my knowledge or I would have worn my derby and looked more debonair Registered American Cream Draft A freebie horse due to a massive hairline cut on the front right causing a permanent split. . I would have gotten a picture but I was nervous enough I didn't want to be bent down photographing her feet. All I did was trim it. But I have hopes of building an awesome shoe for her bad foot. Later when she is better.
so you trying to say you had an untouched horse and within less than 10 minutes were trimming its feet ?
Very nice Mike. Had my friend and compodre' Jason Gilliland('the hamma' from 'Bama') do that for me on a horse named San Remo. Nasty footed bastard!
No. I said a 4 year old horse that is not broke and was turned out for the last two years. I said nothing about her being, not touched. And yes I trimmed her. I'm not trying to say anything. It happened.
I tried my hardest to find anything on the internet about the history of hobbling/foot roping/scotch hobbles and came up with nothing. Does anyone have a reliable accessible resource on the history of this training method?
I see the anvil, the bucket, the shoeing box, the table with tools on it, but what is the thing that is taller than the rest, on a tripod stand? Is that a blower for a forge? Or a stock cutter?
You might look up Bruce Matthews..he is quite the expert at dealing with bad heavies and most other horses...Great Guy!
Things seem to be slowing down with the end of summer on here. We must all be a little worn out. I know I have hardly even made it on to read most of the time let alone post. However, today I feel like I will have some energy! Rain for the last two days, and temps in the 60's not the 100's. So I am going to try and get some photos today. I might even turn out some handmades. We also have a AFA certification here Friday and Saturday. I will see if I can get some photos of that as well.
One heat shoes. Just for fun. Lets have Tejun pick it apart to work on his critical thinking. Instead of us always picking apart his work. There are issues. I'm not denying them.
