I do a lot of QHs. There are two that I wish could go barefoot, of any two horses in the whole world. They could stand around unshod, but any use or small stone and they gimp around, and they have pretty good feet for QHs. I keep them shod but I can't even get paid. I'll tell the owners what the charge is, and they just look at me and say; "Oh Dad". Believe me, I wish they could go natural.
as i have said many many times , too many farriers are dictated to by the shoe manufacturers on what they use , take a 10" foot most would use a 3/4" section web shoe , why not use 5/8 or even 1/2" ? , i doubt very much if you would come across a 2 month old colt with thicker walls than the horses you talk about , 1/2 x 1/4 " with foal nails (mustad) go on alright , tom get under a million pound plus horse running a big one in 24hrs time

appears to me that Chris might be developing a case of the syndrome that he feels exists in some "yanks", hope he keeps it within his own clan! and that he feels better real soon. I can t see the hooves that is are being talked bout from where I sit,so I couldn t comment on if I thought I could nail them up or not, that said, I heard similar statements about hoof quality from a # of folk who shoe in the Quarter horse circuit. Any of you ever put a 000 shoe on a 15h 1100 pound horse? If you did it was probably a QH. Most likely halter class. Regards
The American Quarter horse breed is kinda like America it's self...a melting Pot of mixes..No one breeds for Conformation anymore, they breed for color and performance. Sad thing is too many owners of Stallions that shouldn't be Stallions in the first place..and folks here don't all have nice barns and clean stalls to keep said horses...pasture is by far the best but they get abit of a belly for the look they need in the showring.

would that mean that 25 plus years of "gait irregularity" breeding produces what gets the ribbon and is therefore "correct" .? ray
