same as cold shoeing - you only heat the shoe to make it easier to shape. (don't forget to cool it before you nail it on)
Look, I'm not going to aid an abet you in buying a bunch of kit and going out in the world to learn how to shoe horses by trial and error with a couple of lines of guidance you got off the internet. And neither will any of the other farriers on here. Get some training.
Brandon, you mentioned in another thread that you were going to work with someone and go to school. When you start training you will learn all about the things you are asking about. You are not going to learn to be a farrier by asking questions on the internet. This is a very hands on trade and hands on is the only way to learn it.
Are you trying to set the guy up for third degree burns on his fingers? Great post John, and on the third day he can learn all about therapeutic shoeing. Brandon, Sounds like you have a good amount of desire and are getting your kit together before you start. All very good, but your first job is to hang out with a couple of Farriers, stay out of their way, and sweep up for them.
