Brian, the rasp or a good picture would be great, thanks if you can, follow up, new samples should be here in a few weeks, they think that the problem of broken teeth may be caused by the process used to straighten the rasp after it was heat treated, new samples will use a different process, I pushed the sharpness issue but that was not responded to,I guess, one step at a time. I going to try honing a sample when it gets here if it doesn t feel sharper. Thanks again ray
Smitty, I average 1 rasp a week, 36 to 46 horses, using Heller Legends. I used to get the same performance from the old Save Edges but then the quality became too inconsistant to risk purchasing 50 at a time.
I got word from one of the manufactures working on the mill tooth file project that six new samples are on the way. These are the files similar to the hoof planes , the problem with the last samples were, one batch broke when dropped with a handle on it and the next batch had a burr that was higher than the cutting edge Rick Shepherd reported the breaking, and I reimbursed, Michael Allen reported the burr and I reimbursed, If either of you would like to be the guinnea pigs for another, ifyou ll pay shipping ,I send you one. Brian Robertson made a donation to charity for another style of rasp that didn t work out, Brian, let me know if you would like to try on of these new mill tooths, and i ll get one to you, no donation or shipping involved. Presuming that these folk will take me up on the offers ,i ll have three left, i m trying one,so two left! Anyone wishing to try one of the two remainders, same deal, bid for donation to charity, i ll pay shipping or delivery to you, 100% of your bid will go to the charity of your choice, start now . It will be bout two, maybe 3 weeks before I can ship the samples , they are being shipped to me tomorrow, will be liquid honed and then sent to me, so expect the end of October. Ray
Thanks Ray, I'd love to try another. Are you coming to Maine for the MFA clinic this weekend? Regards
so , 4 are spoken for, if all goes as planned there are two for charity.......... Rick, i had planned to go , but Mrs. Steele has let me know that it is a holiday weekend and that some grand urchins are showing up......in other words I don t have permission from the boss ....... ray
just got word that samples should be her by Wednesday of next week............ i ll fill my side, as it turns out ,only 5 total, 4 are spoken for, 1 left to be bid on............... ray
the 5 mill tooth planes arrived today. 3 will be in the mail tomorrow, one did not impress me so i will use it tomorrow to see if i m being too critical, Brian, Rick and Michael, please try them and test them well and, good or bad let us know how they are. if these appear to be up to snuff then this company will invest a couple million in machinery to produce an excellent tool at a more affordable price. thanks ray
I'll be able to put them to the test. Feet are hard as rocks here right now. It would be nice to have a rasp that will hold up, and leave a nice finish
I did a couple horses today, 1st swipe i was not impressed, after the 1st hoof, happy with the work of both sides, not to say there are not some things to be dealt with, but very verry good. I ll compare note here when you folk have tried the samples. thanks for your time and willingness in the past to try them Ray
Just got mine in the mail. Going to try it on the last 3 horses today. Thought it had shattered in the box!. Turns out that a bag of x factor nails had dumped out inside! What's the good word on the nails? I am usually leery of using new nails.
I got mine yesterday Ray. Thanks, and thanks for the nails as well. What's the story on them? They look like 5CH. What Brand? I can't make out if the shipping is $5.44 or $5.94. Neither one seems like enough. $9.44 maybe? Regards
Good word on the nails michael is that they are samples, I used a few 100 of them and they drive ok, /good. So far no call back on sheared nail, so since it didn t cost any xtra to send them along I thought I would, the more feed back the better, i know what you mean by"leery of using new nails" that s why I ve only used them(new nails) on horses that are 10 minutes from me, whether I go to them or they to me. Ray
Rick, the story with the nails is that another manufacturer wants into this business and asked if I would try his nails, I did and decided to include them with the mill tooth. , Not sure if a brand name has been determined. since neither one seem enough, try $99.46824.........................%.94 I think. I d appreciate you folks trying the mill tooth as soon as you can, so these folk can decide on the $ for machines.... no hurry but yesterday would be soon nough. Ray
I have had it on two horses so far. Sharp. I like the course side alot. Smoth side is good. Left some lines. Feet were harder then rocks so I like it so far. I will get it back to work Monday. Depending on the price I am very interested. I used three new rasp yesterday. Bassoli, save edge photo finish, and this one. I liked the new file. Might have liked the finish better with the photo finish. I could change my mind after I learn how to use it.
Thanks Michael and Rick I appreciate you taking the time to let me know how they work, between the "concrete hard" and the moist around here , along with whatever conditions Maine will provide, perhaps I ll have some good all round info to pass on. I forgot to mention that the one I m using did pass the "drop test" from 36 inches , with and without a handle, n concrete. Not that I m suggesting that you try to break it but if it holds up for trimming until it s useful life is spent, if you think of it please intentionally drop, flip, step on it to see what it does. appreciate it. When and if it lasts a good # of horses, I ll pass on some things that i noticed bout a few of them right out of the box. Thanks again Ray
I crawled under 13 horses today with this little guy today. I love it. Once I backed off on how hard I was pushing it I loved it even more. It seemed to get better as the day went on. We did have the first rain in over a month on Monday so feet were a little softer. What do you think the price range will be and how soon can they bring them to market? First rasp/file that didn't plug up on me in a long time.
