A mountain lion killed and ate part of a young filly I did. They get a horse around here every few years. Had one watching me shoe once (that I know of). That was cool.

Odd for coyotes to take a full growen horse.bet the horse was sick ,old or they were coydogs.funny the diferences in comunities in the US . Ive herd our S.O request that people stop shooting coyotes in town but people would think they were joking if they sugested some one run and hide from a coyote. Bet the poor thing was adjusting to a natural bare foot trim.

When I worked at the Flying B ranch, we had a cougar attack one of our horses. Tore it up pretty good. Took a few months to recover. Cougar ended up with lead poisoning.

Ok now I gota tell my favorite lion story.
Went to trim a horse one morning and met the two gals who owned him. They were all excited and told me that the owner of the stable had to shot a mountain lion that was after a horse during the night before. They went on about how they could not believe one could be in our area.
So I go on how that they were all over our area, and there were probably two more watching us right then. I told them that the problem was that some environmentalist kid who grew up in Los Angeles, came up here and got a degree in forestry at Humboldt State U., and got a job with the Forest Service. Their first job was to do a lion census, they couldn't find any , so they set the population at one every 200 miles.
After a moment of silence one of the gals says, with a bit of coolness,"I have a degree in forestry from Humboldt". I said "Oh geese, where are you from?" She replied, "Los Angeles". So then I said that at least I hadn't said 'Blonds from LA' as she had blond hair.
Finished the trim, never heard from them again.

heard a rumor today concerning this post. the old horse had been down for at least a night and most of a day and no call into the Vet. The horse most likely was dead when coyotes were feasting on it and the owner is hoping for settlement from State Dept of Natural Resourses claims fund for 27 yr old sickly lame horse; that they didn't care enough about to call the Vet.

So what kind of POS SOB owner leaves a horse down for days with no vet care? The least they could've done was shot it in the head.

The owner is a sheriff's posse member so I assume they would have a pistol, so I don't know. I guess they're the same kind of owner that wants to work the system and get "Big Govt" to pay money for a worthless old horse...
