Last few times david I made a toe exstension shoe out of aluminium and glued on it seemed to work well
I've done both Vettec (babies/small yearlings)and shoes (bigger colts/feet). Plywood or plastic (cutting board) is good idea as well though I've not used it. I would say an alum. shoe would be the best though, only because I really like looking at Smittys shoes/shoeing. I'm pretty sure it qualifies as "farrier porn".
I've done the Vettec super fast thing before, works great. Have also done the alum thing. I get enough flat plate at a work shop for free, can't get much cheaper than that.
