Tom, are you recommending those changes shod or unshod? The cyan part we "chop off" is to ease breakover or ?

Just giving you something to think about mechanically. Shortening the toe lever length reduces the magnitude of all moments on the distal limb during the entire weight bearing phase of the stride, not just at turnover. Easier to do with a full web hammer rolled toe on the shoe and then set the shoe under. Looking for the most anterior part of the shoe touching the ground to be on a plumb line dropped from the tip of P3. Not something that is easily done on a bare foot.

Well WOW. I'd forgotten all about this thread... I just posted a question about this same mare.

Our current farrier made some significant changes to the breakover - super close to what was suggested on this thread and that's where we saw the most improvement with her. Looking at the dates - it's been over a year since we started with him. My mistake, I can't keep a time line straight apparently.
