Rcd. a new Journal yesterday, for funsies I counted the full pages of advertisement. By this I mean, no story, editorial or how too, just an advertisement!

Out of ,and my # may be slightly off, 134 total pages counting the front cover as page 1 and the back cover as 134, there were at least 63 pages of nothing but advertisement, tonight I ll count how many pages of strictly story, editorial, instruction, basically any page that does not have any advertisement on it. I ll bet a pint there will not be 10 such pages ,the rest will be anywhere from a 1/6 th of a page advertisement to 50 % advertisements, if my #s are remotely correct,...folks are paying for alot of advertisement!

the subscription price would have to go higher if not for the ads. just not printing enough copies to make money

    Brian,

my observation, especially after looking at this last issue, is that the subscription price allows the reader to see the paid for advertisement....so one might say... your paying to see the advertisements that someone else paid for ,hoping to sell you something, i understand that it is a money thing , it always is, but when there is more advertisement than content, even if regurgitated content, I begin to wonder if it would be better to send out free copies to the readers and sell to the advertises it as a magazine of advertisements , it would up circulation/copies printed and increase the cost of advertising value based on circulation.

To me it seems the bottom line is that folk are getting very little story/editorial value vs pages and pages of advertisements,of course perhaps ther is just not that much to write about hoof care!

Got word a week or so before Christmas that the Journal(AFJ) was no longer accepting classified advertising, the small, no picture ads at the back pages of the magazine. I usually ran a bimonthly as that cost me $35 to 40 bucks per issue. There was usually maybe 10 to 20 classifieds per issue along with mine.

Not that there is any great traffic here, I m going to offer classifieds here for $50.00 per year, up to 100 words and $.50/word for anything after 100 words a word will consist of 5 spaces and one picture will be allowed. A year will run from Jan. 1st to Dec. 31st or any part there of. I 'll try to get a classified section / thread by the New Year with an ad of my own. New ads will be allowed to be posted after arrangements are made thru me.
