I am kind of interested in how you achieve a radio on the horn of a anvil? What type of music do you get?

There is a lot of truth that this post..lol.. you deff can tell when one enters the trade by the anvil for the most part.. I use the 200lb Vulcan as my everyday work anvil .. prob not the best but Comming off a 70lb to it was so much better..
Kohlswa made good Anvils. A lot of company's are now having their anvils made in china. mustad O'Dwyers Anvils are now cast in china. They use to be cast at Northern Amalgamated Foundry. Campbellfield Vic Aust. Its cheaper to make them in China. Its become the way of the world.
Travis there is nothing wrong with turning caulks if the person using them can fit a shoe properly. But most that can don't really need to use them . There lays the problem who likes to use them ? Well I will tell ya blokes with poorly fitting cloths & shoes ,wear red noses curly wigs & silly make up . They use them because they can't fit a shoe proper& find them handy to smack the heels in to hide that fact. You can all most back it in every time that the horses of owners who have employed them clowns. Will get corns the size of Texas & contracted heels constantly.
The caulks on my JHM are useless. The ones I put on my old anvil were awesome. I could put bends precisely where I wanted them. When you learn how to use them properly, you don't stretch the shoe much, and you can put a tight or gradual bend in at will on cold iron. Even square toes are easy.
I use the anvil today. I really like it, straightened and turned branches on the horn only. It did not speed me up though. I still fuss with proper fit.

Cold shoeing is ok. You can get it to fit and can flatten the foot and shoe well enough. Hot shoeing lets you shape the shoe a bit easier, add a modification easier, to make a bit better fit. The hot seating has several benefits. Just several things that are a little bit better. After several little bit betters, they may add up to a lot better. I've shod two horses cold so far in my twenty years. One was a little Reigning horse with the thinnest feet I've met. Shaped hot but didn't smoke 'em. The other was a horse that was so spokey he almost went to his knees from the sound of the forge. Shod him cold and was amazed how fast and easy it was. Did him twice then he spooked at something and broke the lady's foot, and went away. Hey George, I got a free Centaur 125 like you have and didn't even use it 'cause it looked so lame to me. My kid took it and loves it. Hand makes #9 for a Belgium on it beautifully. Anvil choice gets down to just being smarter than the anvil, but dumb enough to have one. Always remember; There ain't but two ways to shoe a horse. Hot and wrong.
