How do you trim on a regular basis? Do you try to match feet or trim each foot individually to its conformation?
I match the trim to the limb, trim to the limb, trim to the limb, la la la laaaa everybody sing along . . .
i think most clients would like to see pairs of feet if possible so i would tryget them as near as possible
I use the inside of the white line to determine my foot shape, then try my best to fit it. Sometimes feet match, but I don't try to make them.
Interesting question Eric... I trim and work to bring the thickness of the hoof wall as seen around the sole to an equal thickness. I then clean the walls working out deformities/flairs each time I trim. (if it is a dire case I trim away all at one time, if normal I will take a bit with each trim until it is back to a clean wall) Now in most cases I will end up with similar hoofs as far as size, BUT in some cases, as with humans we have one foot larger than the other or we could have one normal hoof and one club foot , and in cases like that I explain to the customer in terms hopefully they can understand and/or accept. Good question will be interesting to read each persons responce.
Clients like matching feet so do my best to make them "look" even. If not, I make sure they know the reason why, 'cause when their friends point out unmatching hooves the client better have an answer.
