Well, Thomas, truth is some farrier on here said...."and the crack isn't going to grow out with that much leverage pulling it apart.".... And I did run to the barn and reduced the leverage. Maybe I shouldn't have taken that advice to be correct.

Justin, thanks for the advice. I kept wondering why this would happen, and never realized that it was sugar sand (yes we use that word). And what about confirmation-how would that figure in to it?

Well, MA, it doesn't matter if she needs shoes or not. She gets what she needs.
Aside from my trim, I'm wondering if it matters, cause it sounds kinda hollow behind that crack. And the front of the toe has a flare.

Your horse is sickle hocked if I remember right. They tend to grow the way your horse does, the whole PSI placed upon the feet thing.

Where else would the PSI be placed?

In the sand at the exact same distribution. Not just a good idea, it's the law. ;)

Cutting that line in above the crack does nothing but weaken the foot IMO. also the only way that crack will clear up is by debriding it out which may mean the horse will need shoeing temporarily.

    Thanks, Justin.

Josh, you are most likely right. The rasp line was a poor thought that ended right away. Another "expert" at my barn (the manager) telling me what I should do. I'll have to wait for my farrier to see what evil lurks below. But his voicemail is full, and he's not real good at answering the phone.

This thread started out with good intentions. However , Bloomer's nonsense takes up 22 posts, and Morgan's 8-I'm surprised, only 8?

I don't know why this forum claims it wants owners to come and participate, when the actions here say otherwise.

Most of us don't. I'd like it if cases were presented for discussion.

    Update on Farrier visit Yesterday.
Good or bad, I will tell you what he said.

He didn't like that horizontal line above the crack. Even faint, it shouldn't be done. I agree.
He said trimming the toe back like I did was not going to solve anything.
He said that if he couldn't get the crack/WLD cleared up with 2 more trims, he will have to debride it and put shoes on. Fine with me.

He did say that I've been treating the WLD problems very well. He said with a club foot I may always have a problem with that toe.

I have to say that her feet never looked so good. I'm happy with the work. Next appointment in 6 weeks.

Gotta love that Terry! Did you see the news story? I missed it.

(He and Tim put the authorities onto an illegal slaughter operation right here in my hood. Yes, horses were slaughtered there too. Big problem in Fl with horses being stolen and slaughtered for meat).
