Eric, The reason for my question was that the nail holes on that Kerk looked like they would have been inside the white line, if the shoe was fit to the perimeter of what was left of the wall. So I'm guessing you had a lot of shoe sticking out past the wall? Thanks. Regards
Another stifle challenged horse. Also owner said slight NPA. Vet wanted toe down, and support material. I took what I could of the toe and just put a small bar wedge on with the IM.
If I had nailed that front foot I would have used the two middle nails, instead of the most forward nails, if at all possible IMO forward nailing promotes distortion ....
I don't see any reason nails couldn't be driven in the middle of the foot but how does a toe nail bring about distortion?
See from the solar shot how that side wants to draw in. My intention was to try and let it open up. Was taught to anchor a flare and the opposite to promote expansion.
If I remember correctly there was a study presented on the subject at the AFA convention. I wasn't there so can't comment. I believe it was Martin Kenny and dr. Meyers but could be wrong. Driving toe nails promotes forward distortion or something like that.
I guess my thought process has always been that if the front half of the foot grows in a more forward direction (I.e. toe is likely 50 degrees or so ..) than if u only have nails in the front half it going to pull the shoe forward alittle more than if u had nail around the middle of the foot ... Just my ideas ..
