not to be out done by others, Here are 10 mini donkeys I trimmed today. I know when I said I was going to reduce the size of my business I am not sure I meant this !!!!
I posted this here because I didn't know where else to put it. This is a Shroeder-Thomas Splint, and is used to reduce weight bearing and to place the fracture in traction. I have made these splints for horses, but this little lamb was a first.
I am not going to lie guys. I have a hugh soft spot of donkeys. I am just wondering how you all know this. I think I might have Jimmy Buffet help me decide, that is my mini donk.
That's one of our excellent fourth year vet students with the smile. I like the (accidental) background- various splints and molds, including the elephant foot mold under the cart and the pony sized Schroeder Thomas splint on the left.
Here is a link to the construction of a Schroeder- Thomas splint, I thought it might be helpful to a farrier at some point: http://cal.vet.upenn.edu/projects/saortho/chapter_15/15mast.htm
Hey, JESTER is the best of both worlds. He starts off with NAAAAyyyyy like a horse and then finishes with Ahhh Heee Ahhhh like a donkey. One of my best clients - Easy to work on - a perfect gentleman, doesn't pull away or lean, has the foot up ready to go when you reach for it. Lead rope is optional.
I would like to let everyone know that I will be giving a handmade hoof knife to the winner of this contest. (since I know you're wondering, No I am not suggesting there will be a prize at the end of every photo contest )
