I m told that the Capewell Nail company at one time was the largest producer of horseshoe nails in the world,I ve seen repro calendars with advertisements stating that they had offices in a # of different countries.

The nails pictured are I m told , nails made in the 1960 or 1970s for export to Europe, yanks might notice that they are packed in 2.5 kg boxes. These nails are marked EH 8' I m guessing European head 8.

I got a case 20 years ago and was told by a dealer/manufacturer that they were not well rcd. over there because they were harder than the nails that the European farrier was used to.

The finer print says that Capewell was a division of Standyne.

If I remember correctly ,Standyne sold Capewell to an investor who eventually sold Capewell to Mustard in the early 1980 s. When I started shoeing 1974, I m pretty sure that Standyne owned Capewell.

The 1st case of these that I got came from a man who told me that he worked for a company that bought the cutting tools( band saw ,hack saw blade> interests of Capewell and that when he went to the Hartford factory to move the equipment there were pallets of these Shamrock nails headed to scrap, and because he owned horses he was allowed to take a case, at scrap price.

I have / had some empty Capewell band saw boxes that I was given when I was allowed to buy the 2 nds nails from Capewell back in the early to mid 1990 s. I m told that the original Capewell factory site in a " brownfields" site now ,still waiting clean up,

Just a little anecdotal info about our trade ,
