Dear Mr Scruggs, I m wondering if you would be willing to sell, barter, trade, auction a pair of your tongs like the pair shown in the contest thread. These would be shown at my table at the Summit for the two days of the trade show in Cincinnatti Ohio next week as a promotion/advertisement of our Farrier Forums . Let me know Regards Ray ps. to let folks know I called John before starting this thread.
I'll get my wife to hold the material so I can draw the reins out with a sledge. This ought to be fun!
John, to quote a frequent poster/member on this site..will you have pictures ?......... thanks in advance Ray
Dana, Johns call on that......if left up to me i d take anyones money ......there or here! And Johns call on how the money is handled. Regards Ray
I will donate the tongs. Don't care how Ray decides to take bids. Like to see the money go to an injured farriers fund, but if you have something better in mind, feel free. Once they leave my hands at the post office, the rest is up to you.
My hand is worse than your shoulder!!! If there is a shortage of an injured farrier then what about an up and coming one?
Of course they can go to you as an injured farrier..................what s your bid........bid high and often,if enough be sure to provide an address with payment so we know where to send them. Course you might be bidding against the non injured also. Regards Ray
We don't have an injured farriers fund! and i m not sure how to have one, we could take suggestions and have the winning bidder send a check direct............. just a thought............... ray
Ray, May I suggest an impromptu "Farriers Forum Social" social held in Cincy with a $100 buy in Texas Holdem tournament....winner to receive the tongs... all the proceeds to fund future "scholarships" to the IHCS? Dave
Ray, per our conversation this evening, I think you could take donations both live in Cincy and by proxy through whatever payment method you accept.... I'm thinking maybe a $10, ($5?), "raffle" donation that could be as simple as selling tickets for 10 bucks apiece and you draw a ticket at the end of the trade show.. Winner gets the tongs .... money gets donated... Or..... you could put a deck of cards into a bag and have everyone draw five cards for each donation, record the poker hand and the high hand wins.. This method might encourage more play, because if you draw a crappy hand, they just give you another 10 bucks and draw another one.... could be fun..... Thanks,Mr. Scruggs, for donating these! I think donating them to an existing injured farrier fund is a good idea! Dave
Note: a raffle of any kind, for any amount, for any cause requires the oversight of the State Bureaucrats. most good deeds very rarely go unpunished...
i LIKE the idea of buying a ticket for a raffle . . . the poker hand, not so much . . . cribbage is the only thing i'm decent at.
Folks thanks for the input of how to handle these tongs, the great thing bout asking for advice is that ideas and discussions come forward and decisions can be made, maybe not the best but with information. With John s permission, and to keep it as simple as I am,it will be an auction, all bidding via this forum, if i or someone bids they must be registered here, that does not mean that a registered member cannot place a bid for a non registered person ,just that they must be placed here for all to see. This allows someone say who does not know about the forums to see the tongs at the Summit and bid it also allows bids to be placed by folk who may not have computer access to bid if they have someone who has access to bid for them. Since an injured farrier fund could be cumbersome to administer, i suggest that the winning check is cut to John Scruggs and he can donate it to an existing fund, AFA, BWFA, AAEP, AAPF etc, basically his choice. That way it would show up as income to him and an income deduction to him, a wash, Finally, I suggest that bidding ends a 12:00 noon est Saturday and that the winning bidder posted here provides an address where the tongs should be sent. If that scenario works for folks, go for it, feel free to start bidding. Jaye, if you bid on the 2nd pair and win you could have bookends.................... nobody wants Jaye Perry to have a set of bookends, bid against him .............. Regards Ray
Ray, Can you just make the check out to AFA and put 'Injured Farrier's Fund' in the comment line? That removes me from having to shuffle the money around. Also, I assume you mean next Saturday to end the bids?
John, that s why you get the big money round here, brilliant..... there must be some Irish in you somewhere, good thought and again you re correct next Saturday Feb. 2, 12 noon bidding ends. winner writes check to AFA injured farriers fund . Thanks for your help Ray Ray
Ray, please call me again. I have an idea. Will raise more money, get you more exposure, BUT ...I want to change the charity to Susan Komen breast cancer fund. My grandmother had breast cancer metastasize and she died from it. Here is a picture of me and my grandmother when I was a younger man. The chemo took her hair and this was the wig she wore to replace it. Even when she was too weak to walk, and I had to carry her, she was full of piss and vinegar and a lot of fun. Does anyone have a problem with an impromptu change of charity? I will make another pair later for the AFA if there is enough interest. If not, I have had a LOT of help from Craig...I mean a lot of phone time that he has given to me talking me through making tongs (and William Kiner as well). If everyone is okay with that, I would just have the winning bidder make the check out to WCB and write 'Don't brush off breast cancer fund' in the comment line. This way, Farrier Forum gets the exposure, as does WCB's charity, and the money goes to funding a cure for breast cancer. Hopefully this is okay with everyone.
