How do I demagnetize my driving hammer? After i ring nails off, the nails are sticking to the end of my claw.
Il be interested in an answer to this as I have the same problem!!! drives me up the wall. I pass the hammer past the hoof jack magnet to get rid of them and of course it magnetizes the hammer more!
Pass them the other way across the magnet! Actually, this does not seem that much of a disadvantage. I have a couple of customers who are paranoid about 'sharp bits' on their yard and go around picking them up after me, so a magnatized claw hammer almost seems marketable!
I had this problem and called a talk show on the radio hosted buy a rocket scientist, Bill Watenburg, and he said to heat up the offending piece of steel. Used the forge, not long enough to hurt the hardness or burn the handle, like a charm it worked.
One way that may work is to place your hammer head on top of your anvil and hit it a couple of times with another hammer, hard enough to make your driving hammer jump but not hard enough to damage either hammer. Ray
check these http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/ww...demagnatizer&N=0&GlobalSearch=true&sst=subset there are times when it's handy to be able to magnetize your tools then demag
When I first started out I put a magnet on the end of my driving hammer handle. A new client would see me pick up a nail (after gitting a flat tire from the last guy) and I was the guy for life. The shoes may have been on upside down, but I was a hero.
Ray was there! We kind of thought it was time you guys looked after your self. As fledgling democracies go you look like you are getting the hang of it. Except for the Bush bit.
