As the last person had the feet down to the wire
all I could do was drop his heels and clean up the feet 20150423_105107.jpg

The Fjord driving horses I shoe, Smitty, carry a lot more foot than the one here. 3 1/2" to 3 5/8" toe length after the trim with 3/8" to 1/2"of wall. Tough little guys; they don't have a lot of speed at the trot but they seem to go all day long and finish just as good as they started.

With that long back and short legs you won't have any problems with forging. ;-)

There are three kinds of Fjords here in Denmark: F - Fjord, FF- Fat Fjord, FFF - Foundered Fat Fjord. I see many of the FFF every year.

I only have one Fjord on my list. He has nice big feet - much bigger than the one pictured. His name is Garth and he is a pleasure to deal with.

I've done a number of Fjordes. No complaints, good feet , good manners. Here's a pair. I'm driving, owner is co-pilot.

I warn the owners that Fjords are air plants, only requiring fresh air, clean water and good scenery. Oh and a little hay. Scare them badly with laminitis stories and they won't have Mikel's FFFs.
My only complaint with them is you can't nail them up with slim blade anythings

There are tons of Fjords here in Denmark. Problem is there is also lush grass pastures and not much for them to do. People here think if you ride a hour a day, three or four times a week, then you've really done something. They forget these porkers don't need to eat 24/7.

after nailing up a couple of Fjords or a couple of half drafts, I really have to focus when the very next horse is a little TB.lol
