I am interested in learning this trade. I live in Florida, so there are a lot of horses.

However, I was told recently by a farmer that you can't be a farrier unless you can "make the cowgirls feel real good and cuddly", and that he knew some men who were masterful farriers but couldn't make it profitable because they "didn't have presentation towards people" as he put it.

I have pretty alright people skills, but do you really have to be an exceptionally charming slick talker or something like that?

I do know one person who has invited me to come to their ranch, and she even suggested that her farrier would teach me a bit, but I don't have a real background with horses. Although I would love to. Is it hard to get into the farrier world as a non-ranch or non-horse person?

How do you get your clients? I noticed at the auto parts store there was a rack of business cards for a local farrier. Do you get clients often from calls like that, or are you always introduced by a friend? The process of getting to the horse's actual hoof seems a bit difficult.
