what's this?

    found this mess under the hair last week. I burned the hair away (no knife or scissors handy) I washed the dried blood and puss off and couldn't find either puncture or tread on wound. Horse was terribly sensitive on it either. 0226131623a_2_2.jpg

    Could be a quitter, infected lateral cartilage. Needs vet attendance as a matter of urgency. we have shot a few that have been ignored.

    That looks like a wound to me? Foot get stuck in something? Does that shoe have heel caulks or wedged?

    I found that mess under the hair when shoeing. Horse had been turned out for 2 yrs don't think it was trimmed. He is wearing a concave calk and wedge, 17" of 1/2"x1" plus a snow ball pad
