Yes it was because of "people who wanted something for nothing"; is there a mirror close?. So now, name "slingin", miss appointments and sub-par work is being exposed..... Want to play some more?.... I can scan and post... but i am not a total assh@le... i will not let kids go hungry.....
Well along with the subject of this thread, Apprenticeships, we have had sojourns of into slave history in the USA and the world, work ethics, a touch of womens rights and a few others. Please keep it on the request as it pertains to horseshoeing in the 21 century and take the other stuff somewhere else. Ray
People learn in different ways, some need to be lead, some will pick it up as quick as being shown once. Some are driven by self improvement, each job should be better than the last. some need to practice and repeat a process a thousand times to hone it. Im sure we can all relate to different aspects of learning and teaching. The English apprenticeship is only as good as the trainer and the candidate but they do have independent verifyers.
Had a TXT'ed conversation w/ a assiociate. She does not like what I pay her for her skills. $50 US a day. Thus IMO, a minum wage assiociate. But she has taken the skills "we" have taught her to gain more wage from others. Me, IDJAS! But, does one want to work on everyday ponies or seperate themselves from the pack? Learned that lesson years ago. Ask Maki: hope people don't settle for medocrity! that is what is killing our nation!
OMG, Not too long ago I was saying I'd work for $50 a day under someone like you and call it a blessing to make a wage and learn.
And now what Kimmy? Almost a year later, with conciencese thought of the job? As mentors, do we "hand hold and hair brush"? Our give guidence? to further a career...? Monetary confidence is earned in the south. It's a learned response.....
? I'm a bit lost. I'm still trying to apply what I learned last December. I'd happily help for free if you were closer and I did not have kids to care for. Well I didn't have the kids I'd move up there, and jump on the opportunity the last associate had. I kinda like hand holding and hair brushing if your offering. (hope it's not a reference of you think I didn't appreciate the time you took to help out)
I pay help just because I feel its the right thing to do..but the best help I ever have always ask to ride just for the learning of it..I pay because that's just me..at one time I started pay at 20% knowing I would not get as much done ..I learned real fast 5% start was a good start to see if I could use them and its cheap enough to learn how serious they are ..but the main reason I pay is I'm not a teacher I'm a man working and can use help...I'm not gonna fill ones head with what I think I know..ask a question I tell you what I think ..I save the teaching for those with a school and a tank top..
Do we, as "so called mentors", pay for someone esle's training? Because "they feel they derserve an opprotunity" ? Most who have PAID for a education from promienent farriry schools have Bad Habits.....habits that were learned from mentors that have not been in the real world of farriery. So, In us old timers mind's, times change and things change? or do they really? It's called"Passion", "work ethic" and "desire". So, is their anybody out there who has any character to learn w/o whining or a 'something for nothing' attitude?
