Has anyone seen anything like this before? I know the pictures aren't the greatest. It looks like bacteria is causing this but I'd like some other opinions on it. I've never seen this happen coming in from the back of the foot going under the bars. The horses are in a lot of mud and they are turned out, no barn. It's on the horses left back hoof on both sides and on the outside of the horses right back foot. My best recommendation is to put some lime in the pasture to try and kill off the bacteria, and use some sort of Thrush medicine on the foot, or see if they can board the horse somewhere dry for a while until this heals up. I didn't cut anything back on the heels because the frog is already 1/2" below the hoof wall. Any other ideas would be appreciated.
I d suggest involving a vet.. the pics are not defined enough but your initial suggestions are spot on but a vet should be included. Could be a case of double sole with or without abscesses or something else tough to tell without being there Regards Ray
