A little project I thought of when this topic first came up. Nail fit. Here are some pictures of punched nail hole cross-sections in 3/8 X 7/8 concave. I've been struggling with nail fit in my concave. The pictures are labelled. I originally took pics of 3 at a time, but the angle threw the pictures off, so I took each picture straight on. I threw in the city head nail pics for comparison only. Wish I had Smitty's gift with the camera, but here they are.

I'm not thrilled with any of the fits, but I'm thinking the E5 fit the best. The pics are all using the same piece of stock. Can you all make some observations on the nail size/fit/punching, etc. Thanks in advance.

Try a BH 5 - 6 or combo CH 5-6 if your not going to proud stamp & the smaller diameter shoe made close the fuller in more .

Can we have a look at your stamp and pritchel?

In 7/8x3/8 i would use a 5 or a 6 depending on the size and quality of the foot

I took a lot of pics trying to get some useful ones. Don't know if these are adequate for you to suggest anything, but I appreciate your response. I'm seeing that the end of the forepunch is bigger then the end of the pritchel. I don't know if you can see that in the pics.

I guess I should also add that I've used them some since doing the cross sections, and tuned up the pritchel at least once.

To be honest Jack, this is the first I've heard of a BH nail. Maybe they're called something different over here? I just googled it and read that it is the most used in the Australian market. Sounds like it is similar to our CH slim.

Smitty, Thanks, that's the fit I was looking for. I'll tune up my tools tonight. I checked the ends against a guage I have, and against a new Flatland pritchel and forepunch and I can see that I need some adjustment. Amazing that you could tell that from the crappy pictures I posted. I'l post some more pics when I get done - tools and nail holes. Might be later in the week, I've got a couple of long days coming up.

Thanks Ray, I'll check them out.

Elrick, ( :p ) I just called the supplier and the concave is from Billy Cruthers.

Thanks all for the help and suggestions. Keep 'em coming.

    Regards
