I'm only part time with the city.

Doctor said that I could have it done on a Friday and go back to "light" work on the following Monday. I told him I have a desk job. I can stay with my mom for that time frame.

So, I'm assuming its less invasive than in years past. Now I do have to stay away from the farrier work for the full six weeks.

Got the bandage off today. Felt good - my hand sure itched!! The black line on the bottom is just that - a mark. The cut was sigsagged through my finger and hand. Stiches come out Friday.

Remember folks, if you don't change your tools/technique these surgeries will need to be redone. Spend the time/money on a good physical/occupational therapist. After my first shoulder surgery, I took my therapist for a ride along (she always wanted a horse, so she had a great time). She then consulted farther up the food chain and a week later she came up with THE PLAN. I think the only thing that didn't have to change was my clinch cutter. Everything from warm up/cool down exercises to the rig layout, forging tools, floor tools to shoeing box changed.

I didn't think about that. Makes sense though.

Good point Brian. I've got one I've been seeing for over a year now for my shoulder. She has greatly helped me get squared away and got an exercise plan for me, specifically for my problems. Worth looking into.

Well today I going to try out t the hand. Yesterday I was in the shop and made a shoe. Lost a lot of strength in the hand, but hope will come back with time. Got a couple horses to do today. I ended up loosing all the skin in the palm of my hand under the last three fingers. The area around the scare is very tender, but with a glove I think will do ok.

Best part is I can now fully open my hand and extend all fingers normally.

Glad to hear you're back to work. Consider wearing a weight lifter's glove on that hand. The glove has some extra padding across the palm that should help protect that sensitive area.

The wife had an old leg wrap, so I cut a pad from it, got a thin glove on top to hold it in place. Works good. Did a couple horses today. Boy is the hand weak. I knew it would take some time to get strength back up. But will come.
